I got new rims from nsmith12 and they look amazing. Now i just need to decide what summer tires i want to save for. Im looking at the Michelin pilot sport PS2 and the goodyear eagle f1. Just wondering what you guys are running and wanted to see what you thought and if you had any suggestions.

i dont know a whole lot about tires but i guess it depends on if you track the car or if you just drive it round... then it depends on how hard you drive it when you just 'drive around' lol ...
Just do some research based on how you drive. I've driven passed the speed rating my tires are meant for because I didn't even check it out.

the GY F1 tread wear is terrible.. not sure the PS2's are any better.. I had the GY's on my GLI two sets in 40k, the get real loud as the wear as well.. at least from my experiences

Re: Got new rims time to decide on what tires to save for

BFGoodrich G force KDW-2's for me. The tread looks very aggressive and they are pretty sticky. They lasted very well through two days at the track. The only negative I've heard is that they are kind of noisy. When I first got them, they were quieter than the stock p6's (pieces of crap) however they have definitely gotten more noisy as the tread wears down. The wear rating is 300, so you can get a decent amount of life out of them for a pretty high performance summer tire.

Re: Got new rims time to decide on what tires to save for

PS2s are great but $$$ and the wear is kinda crappy. BFG KDW2s are cool, but once worn down a bit, sound like offroad tires.

    I'd hit the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s.

I like my Dunlop sport maxx's, depending on the road surface they can be little noisy but not bad.

I have had the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx and I ate through those in 10k, the BFG KDW2 in 20k but were extremely loud ( really did not mind ), now I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport and love them. I have also had the Potenza RE050A Pole Position on a BMW 550i and never looked back.

I had the GY Eagle F1 GS-D3's on my S4......great tire in the dry and wet. I never had wear issues but I also rotated my tires every other oil change (about every 7K). Get the GY

You have over 20k miles on them yet??? They started to get loud around 20k miles or so. and i rotated after every 5k change, with winters one from mid Dec to mid Mar.

Other than that they were awesome, hence two sets of them.

Don't know what wheels you've got, (otherwise I would have linked directly), but Tire Rack is pretty helpful with tire categories, descriptions, and tons of reviews.

Re: Got new rims time to decide on what tires to save for

PS2s are fantastic but they're one of the most expensive tires you can buy and wear very quickly. I've gone through several sets of PS2s as well as Yokos, Pirellis and Contis and finally decided to try the lesser known, cheaper but well-reviewed tires and will never go back. The best two extreme summer options IMO are Falken 452s and Sumitomo HTR Z3s.

If you've got 18" wheels or smaller. They don't make tires for 19s. I've already gone through two sets and they're excellent. Only draw back is that they're a bit heavy.

Re: Got new rims time to decide on what tires to save for

I have the KDW2's (235/40R18). Stick like all hell in the wet and the dry, great life (I have about 15k in them and have about 10k left; no track days though). A bit noisy, but if you have an aftermarket exhaust they're not really louder than that. But it partially depends on what size tire as well. I got these because they have a stiff sidewall (and the wheels are 18's). If you have 19"s you might want to consider the Vredestien Ultrac Sessenta (sp?); a bunch of people I know have and love them.
