What size wheels do you prefer?

I'm checkin out a set of Racing Harts that are 17's and they look alright, I was just curious what everybody's opinion is, especially on Racing Harts. I'm with stock wheels now with stock suspension on a 2000 A4 1.8tq btw.

I like the 17's that I just put on my car with 235/45's. I can't see going to 18's not with the crummy roads in Chicago.

When you buy big wheels you shift the rotational force further out from the hub... thus making acceleration and braking worse. As well as putting more stress on bearings, bushings, and whatnot.

Not to mention that larger wheels like 18's are heavier which negatively effect handling, braking, acceleration.

I generally like 16's and 17's because they have good performance tire selection and are generally lite. I only use larger rims its its necessary to clear the brakes.

Its also worth it to mention that endless your Mario Andretti your not going to feel small differences in rotational mass and unsprung weight. So buy whatever wheels looks good to you and worry about the size and weight once you start getting some track time.

Thats probably most important. If you would like to make deciding a little easier, go into the chatterbox forum and check out the wheel and suspension thread

when i had my b5, 18s looked perfect, depending on the 19s (lip or not) it can be dope. 18s on my b6 look small. if youre getting the wheels for performance, get 17"..

Just because you have 17" doesnt mean that you are going to "track" your car. I tracked my car with 18"s perfectly fine. Maybe you can go offroading with 15"s.
Btw-BBS reps arent the cheapest either.

17's were nice since the roads I commute on are pretty shitty. I think the 17's look better with a simple wheel design (SSR comps for example) versus a mesh wheel design.

Re: What size wheels do you prefer?

I've always been a fan of 18"s anything larger is too big in IMO.

But it is true that obviously as you jump from 17" to 18" the wheel weight goes up.

Also IMO you should definitely do suspension before putting wheels on the car, my car had 18"s on it for a week before I lowered it and it looked ridiculous....4x4 status!

well first how are the roads around where you live/work? the bigger you go, the easier they are to bend. i live in Cincinnati and bent 16" stock sport rims, granted that the pothole I hit at night was the biggest one I've ever seen, even pulled the tire off the bead. I'm on 17's right now and wouldnt go any bigger if your roads are bad.

    17s definitely. 18+ for a b5 is a bit overkill imo.

Blah typo i meant 19+, but if you want performance as people have said, go 17, but for looks, go 18. personally i still say go 17, but i choose performance over looks any day, just my personal preference.

the roads around my hometown are pretty awful, I know where though and usually avoid anything too bad. I have no intention of taking my car to the track, its just a simple rim job I'm looking for. My only concern is how bad the roads get after winter here in utah. once all the roads freeze, they start to crack when it gets warmer then we get some major potholes
