Unhappy more evidences of the carnage...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
got some additional pics of the damages from last week mishap taken by Freddie on the weekend...

the adjuster still hasn't dropped by to inspect the Avant... hopefully he will be around the shop tomorrow... but right now we still don't know how much damages there are in the engine bay...

i also finally understood my insurance policy and although i've got comprehensive coverage on the Avant, i was covered for only up to $5,000 in property damage liability... ... it's now up to $50,000, but too late... i'm a little concerned about the camry and how much damages it sustained...

i know it should go w/o saying but i'll still go ahead and say it: read and understand your policy before it's too late...
i wish whoever sold the original policy had spent time explaining to me what each line item meant and i wish i had asked for more explanations than what i did... another lesson learned...

Damn, another insurance company ripoff! Just the reason I have the max allowance on everything and my premium is still only $560 for 6 months! Good luck getting her patched back up and I hope you dont have to come out of pocket anything more than your deductible!

Ouch on the gaff with the policy coverage and it is one time I think that ICBC isn't all that bad for what they offer.

what i'm pissed about is that the increase in premium to bump it up from $5,000 to $50,000 is only ~$7 a month... had i known i would have gotten that coverage right from the beginning... it's not like i can't afford it...

if you hit another car, your liability should cover them right? its not a house or something, its another car or was it parked? is that the reason its falling under property damage?

Exactly property damage is a stationary object like a house, lawn, signs....not too sure about parked cars though. I would think that it would not fall under it.

Looks like the following are in order:

    Headlights
    Front bumper
    Rear bumper
    LF fender
    Hood
    Dashboard
    Airbag
    AC condensor
    Radiator
    Proabaly radiator support
    and the list goes on....

sorry to hear about it man!

in my experience.. PD is anything you hit (other than people/animals).. including parked cars. thats why higher PD limits is so important (sorry Stéph). even if your going 35mph and you plow a line of parked cars.. even 50k limits wont help much if you hit 1 or 2 nice cars.

That sucks. Any news on the drivers airbag not going off?

    From the other thread:

so the adjuster took a look at it earlier today and based on his evaluation the cost of the repairs is going to be too close to the value of the car, so from his perspective it's a total loss...

i'll know the final verdict from the insurance either tomorrow or on Thursday...

Re: more evidences of the carnage...

no good.. if you really dont want it to go totaled.. maybe ask him for a copy of the preliminary estimate and see if you can source some parts from Greg or a salvage yard for LKQ to cut costs and help you out. i'd bet that the airbag/dash is whats pushing the estimate up.

Also, when the adjuster does the total loss valuation make sure you go over every option with him. the condition/mileage/options of the car may change the outcome. you may decide that parting out back to stock doesnt cost you anything on the value of the car... ex: S4 seats/aftermarket suspension/wheels/BBK/black upper interior/ect. in the estimating system are likely the same value as an insurance company may not be able to place a value on upgrading them.

if it ends up being a total loss.. check California's policy on salvage retention (as already mentioned) but retaining it could be a huge PITA.

Like Kind and Quality.. recycled/used parts from a salvage yard. for audi's they are typically far and few between but finding an A/S4 that was rear-ended and totaled could provide some parts that you need for less than new audi parts. although i wouldnt get a recycled/used airbag (i dont think any insurance company re-uses airbags)..

some people have a problem using LKQ parts but IMO they are no different than ebay parts or parts off of forum classifieds.

Was the passenger seat occupied? If not, this is a good example of a needless deployment that served no purpose, and increased the cost of repair substantially. Most passenger air bags are now only enabled if there is someone actually sitting in the seat. It would be very informative to many knowing if the air bag controller recorded if the driver's air bag was sent a deployment signal or not. Can the controller be scanned for evidence of that?

your right on a/b unnecessary deployment if unoccupied. but i think audi changed the passenger seat to occupant sensing w/ the B7 (i have no proof of that or if the B6 has it or not. but the b7 has the light on the center console.)
