need help with vag com...

alright...well i just got the usb cable off of ebay from the alpha bid guy. i got the USB Vag-Com Cable/Interface/Scanner VW Audi VagCom~OBD2 cable. i bought the $99 Vag-Com software license. now im just lost on what to do...i download the 311.2 version since im using a usb port and its a 3rd party cable. but im still lost on how to test my car and register the product. idk if im doing something wrong or not i just need some help right now...sorry for being a noob.

at first i would go to options, select a port, test it and save it...then from there im lost...and it still says in the about that i still need to test it on my car...which i have been doing...with the key on and everything.

Ive read the rosst-tech site looking for answers and i havent found anything helpful. If you guys could shed some light on this for me so i can get some codes up so that i can ask for some more help that would be greatly appreciated lol
