Anyone here work for an Audi dealership?

Looking at a new A3 S-Line, with titanium package, cold weather, open sky. Sticker is $32k and change.

I went in and drove it, talked to sales. I have a 2003 A4 1.8T Avant in amulet red, with just under 60k. One small ding in passenger quarter panel, cracked leatherette, otherwise excellent. I said I wanted to lease the A3, no money down (other than trade in), with payments around $400/mo.

Sales lady said they would give me $10.5k for trade-in (which pretty much blows more than even I expected - bb retail is around 14k, I think). She offered no concession on the price, saying there is "very little markup on A3's." Right.

Seemed weird. She did not seem interested in negotiating at all. Told me I was upside down on my car. I owe $12k.

I left. But am interested in the car. Not sure what next move should be.

    Advice?

If bb retail is 14k your lucky to be getting 10.5k as a trade in. Eve if they gave you 12k as a trade that would be like leasing a brand new A3 with 0 down. It's simple math, if the #'s work for them then they accept the deal otherwise they tell you to go scratch. There is very little mark-up I got mine for $500 over invoice, fully loaded.

    KBB is ALWAYS high...

The price is determined by what they can sell it for later, minus some profit (usually around 2-4K). So, if they will turn around and (try, given the economy) to sell your car for 14K, you'll be lucky to get 11K.

That being said, the markups aren't that high right now - I just picked up my A3 Premium 2.0T Quattro for 1K UNDER invoice.

Unless your sold on the new features of the 09 I'd say take a look at the 08's. There are still a lot out there and now you can get great deals on them!

Nope, 09 A3 2.0T quattro. premium, convinience, navi and sunroof packages. 952 under invoice, 3150 under MSRP ($35K even before TTL).

I doubt if you went into the dealership right now you wouldn't drive a car away on a lease with 0 down and $400 a month. Why would they do this deal if you are upside down?
