    CV boot/axle... opinions needed!

My drivers side inner boot ripped recently, which is kind of odd because usually the outter boots rip first. I was thinking about replacing the whole axle that way I don't have to worry about taking it apart or worry about the outer boot going and having to do the job all over again. I've done a boot on my audi coupe and it was pretty tricky business taking that thing apart.

MJMautohaus sells brand new axles from a company called "Aftermarket" for a little over $100. Just curious how well its made... any thoughts?

i just did my inners this weekend. i kick myself for not doing them with i did my outters a few months before. Either do both or get a new axle. Its not hard to do just very messy. For the price you can get a new axle for no id just go that route. boots alone will cost you around 60 for the set.

JHM sells solid axles for a decent price. That's where I'm headed for my next set.

Haha my inner boot was ripped on my last S4 and it sounded like a playing card in the spokes of a bike. Not to mention it felt like an earthquake when you accelorated. I wouldnt let it go too long, it could cause some additional damage.

Wow, very uncommon for an inner boot to rip.....

Call Jason@JHM, he will prolly recommend a whole new axle if the CV Joint is already making noise, JHM sells SOLID axles for like $117 or something, vs. our HOLLOW stock axles..........seems like the best route IMHO

Yeh I almost think I ran over something that tore it... my 1985 coupe still has its factory inner boots and the car is almost 24 years old

That's the route I took, and I couldn't be happier. It's a hell of a lot easier to just get in there and un-bolt, swap, and put back together one time vs worring about that outer boot ripping in the future. I can attest to the good quality of the axles that JHM sells. I beat on mine daily, and don't forsee any problems.

Good luck to ya either way

sorry...i said the same thing after reading it this morning That was a very drunken question. I just was wondering if the car will be effected from running (1) solid axle on drivers side and (1) hollow axle on the passengers side?

I guess it would depend on how much heavier the JHM axle it, but I'm not sure if that would hurt the transmission
