Mine came on yesterday for no apparent reason...any easy way to "reset" it or fix whatever the cause for the indicator is?

    Re: Air Bag Light

Use a vag-com to see what code it is. You can then clear it and see if it comes back. I've heard of wires coming loose under the seat and causing this, but depends on code

    Re: Air Bag Light

theres a few things with the airbag sensor. First , you should scan it, commonly its a high resistance or something, a pretty common problem on b5's. But there is a simple fix. Simply take out the connector, located underneath the passengers seat and clean it, and then reconnect it and zip tie it tightly shut. The airbag connector is very sensitive for whatever reason. Ive done this and it works!

Fantastic...on the passanger seat is it under the front or back of the seat? Any certain color I should be looking for or is it the only connector under there?

Argg I have the same issue, but for a different reason...
A sidewalk hit and detonated the side drivers side airbag and now the light wont go away

press the center of the steering wheel to honk the horn. If the horn doesn't work you need a new clock-spring. I had a airbag light last week and figured out the problem after much research.

    Re: Air Bag Light

I personally wouldn't take it to the dealer because they will rape you. I heard it's like a $300 part, I got lucky and bought mine on ebay for $25 and replaced it myself. It's not that hard. The most important thing is to adjust/align it correctly or you will snap the coil inside again.

    Re: Air Bag Light

Nope it took like 30-45 min. You have to be careful when centering the ring. The replacement one may have been removed at a different position. It's kinda hard to explain but you will see when i'm talking about once you attempt to install yours. I wish you were local, I would definately help you out.

And if it does honk...then you just need to reset it with a Vag?

    Re: Air Bag Light

You should scan it either way. If your horn does honk than that could mean it's a different airbag throwing the light rather than the one in the steering wheel.

    Re: Air Bag Light

The module itself can go bad, which is what happened to me. Its a $400 part where the module gets sent in to be rebuilt.

If it does honk it is not the clockspring, it could be the airbag wiring found under the seat as suggested earlier.

Yes brand new it is like a 300-400 dollar part but you can buy a new clockspring on ebay for only 30-$40.

    Re: Air Bag Light

Well the horn honked with no problem, so it's not the clock spring. I'll have to check the wiring under the passanger seat. Looks like there are two connectors, one Yellow and one Purple I believe. I assume one is for the heated seats and the other for the Air Bag.

Can anyone confirm which is for the Air Bag? And should I just use Alcohol and swab the connector down to clean it up?
