    Grinding metal sound...??

    hey guys,

so i was driving back to college today and i decided to stop to get some cofee on the way. Well the car was foggy and i was stupid and coming out of the parking lot i drove up onto a curb and heard the car bottom out bad. So i then reversed it back off of the curb and once bottomed it out again. So i freaked out and looked under (from the only street light i had) everything seemed to be okay except major scratches to the bottom of the car. I had my girlfriend rev up the engine to make sure my new exhaust was ok (asp 89mm) and it sounded normal. Except one thing, only when the revs are between 4-5K there is a metal grinding noise coming from either before the cats or near the engine bay. it sounds more like the engine bay but im having trouble.

    any ideas?

my guess, either a loose clamp on the exhaust...double check them. or it tweaked a heat shield and that is rattling on something. hopefully it not really something grinding.

I'm having the exact same problem, except that my rattling can be heard between 1.800 and 2.000 rpm. I noticed that mine rattling happens only while driving. If I rev in place no rattling happens.

It sounds like exaust is touching something, but haven't had time to look closer. I believe this happens to my car because of bad engine and transmission mounts. That's my crazy theory :)

i got no clue, how ever i did look under my car today and everything is good. IM wondering if many the engine mounts, because it sounds like its coming more from the engine bay. At least im not the only one with the problem.
