    Exhaust and intake valves

What is the difference in the TRW and Osvat exhaust/intake valves? I noticed the exhaust TRW valves have a sodium filler.
Is paying 4x more per valve worth it?

Are you talking about OEM replacements? Why not upgrade with Supertech if you want to stay cheaper or Ferrea?

If there are upgrades available then I'm all in(As long as they are within price of the oem)

The Supertech components aren't that expensive.

About $1000 for all the valves, springs and retainers.

    Re: Exhaust and intake valves

Why do you need new valves? Did you really bend them? Did you update your other thread? I should go check...

OEM ones are too expensive and weaker than aftermarket (like Shawn and Winston have stated before me)

I went through and checked the compression on all 4 cylinders and got nothing. I havn't takenthe head off yet that will be tomorrow once I track down the tool to remove the bolts with.

Anyone care to let me know what type of bit is used to remove the head bolts? I think it may be a triple square?

Depends on the stores local to you. Not sure if Napa carries them...

I bought mine from that vendor. They are in southern NY so I order on a Wed morning and it shows up at my doorstep on Thursday since I'm one state over.

Did you try pulling the dipstick out with the car running? Any excessive positive pressure coming out? What were compression test and leakdown test results?

Well I wish I could say the car is running, but I will check the dipstick slot for pressure. The compression test showed 0 all the way across. Is that normal? and don't know what a leak down test is

Are you doing all the work yourself? Borrow a boroscope from someone and take a look at the top of the cylinders

    Re: Exhaust and intake valves

Only thing I can think of is I have the valve cover removed to do the test and didn't build pressure that way. I wouldn't think that would be necessary though cause the pistons are sealed off on their own?.?.?.?.

    Re: Exhaust and intake valves

valve cover off will not affect a compression test, might make a mess though. Very rarely do you get 0's on all 4 cylinders, are you sure you had a proper seal in the plug hole for the guage? Did your timing belt break?

    Re: Exhaust and intake valves

Well either way I'm going to the store to pick up the socket drive to take off the head so I will get to the literal bottom of this. My fiance held her hand over one of the holes and barely got any compression, but I may have someone check by hand all the rest incase the tester doesn't work properly

    Re: Exhaust and intake valves

    Bryan,
Yes, it is safe to say at this point that you should pull the head to do a visual on the valves. Sorry it has to come to this but another method is to pull the intake and/or exhaust manifold off to look down the ports. However, if you go that far you might as well just pull the head.

Car won't run with 'no' compression.

Im aware of that, but the "hand over the hole" test doesnt qualify as respresenting a zero compression motor, and rarely does that happen (have all 0's) unless the motor is completely F'd in which I would hope you would know, not be guessing

Well it took me all afternoon but I just finally got the head off and the way it looks is ALL the exhaust valves are open and a few of the intake. Here are some pics of the valves and cylinder heads(is all the black build up normal?
