and yet another new s4 owner and a few questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Picked this up the other day.
2005 S4 with 29k on the clock. Still under factory warranty thru aug. of 09.
Paid 24k with four new tires. Full service records.

It has a few scratches but, all in all very clean. Has from what I've read the dreaded condensation in the headlight.

    And now for the questions..

    1. I understand that audi will not warranty the headlights unless the condensation is excessive. I washed the car two days ago and it still has some condensation. At what point does Audi consider the condensation excessive?

    2. I'm very interested in a front lip splitter. Something very simple and cheap. Not so much for the performance or looks but, to protect the bumper from scraping. I'd rather scrape the splitter than the bumper itself. I've become pretty good at avoiding scraping but, there are always those times.

    3. Any opinions of the ebay RS4/R8 knock off wheels? I certainly understand that you get what you pay for but, i'm curious what others have thought about these.

I appreciate any help and look forward to being part of the forum.

to fix the condensation, just turn your headlights on....after 15 min or so of driving around or whatever you'll be good. My condensation def got worse after I did the CC mod, but w/e I just turn the headlights on and you're good to go!

for splitter a lot of people do cupra/vinny mod. I have the garage stuff from home depot but haven't put it on yet, so I can't comment right now on that...

I have VMR RS4 reps which are a bit more than the ebay ones and I love em! With new tires though, and being in SLC....I would wait until after winter to spend on new wheels/tires. Go for coilovers instead! I wish I would have done C/O's first, but needed new tires anyways which resulted in the wheel purchase first....

Congrats on the purchase, looks very clean.

As far as the lights go, condensation seems to be the norm. I have the same issue with my S4, and I had it with my A4. There's a couple of cheap fixes on these boards (can't remember where, but search and you will find).

As far as RS4 reps go, Velocity Motoring has a nice set (IMO), and from what I've seen / heard, their quality is great.

I can offer no help on the splitter, sorry.

    Congrats again...

forgive my newb-ness.. the CC mod?

I've tried the headlight on for awhile and had no luck. It has diminished but, still a fair amount. I am now using a hairdryer to try and speed things along.

Clear Corner. referring to the amber corner lights and making them clear and thus "cleaner" looking in some peoples opinions.

Re: and yet another new s4 owner and a few questions

i took mine in to dealer for the condensation while you could still see it there. told them i'd had my headlights on all day and it was still there.

they printed up something from audi saying "that's normal".

the dealer actually told me to complain to audi. they thought it should be replaced but weren't able to do it cuz of audi's little notification disclaimer.

i haven't noticed it happening very often, but it will probably be a while before corrosion is apparent.

congrats on your car. it's nice and you'll love it!

the foggy B6 lights strike again...how on earth doesn't Audi fix this for you guys???

I had a B6 Avant but never had the fog. Lucky I guess

The fix is simple as hell though. You have to change the o-rings that have broken down. It's reasonably complicated sounding, but the fact is it's about 90 minutes of annoying little screws/knuckle scraping (if you have big hands) and overall annoyance, but it's only going to cost you about $0.50...the o-rings are little rubber gaskets that are like $2.50 for 10 of them at Home Depot.

Re: and yet another new s4 owner and a few questions

the headlights on my b6 were bad when i bought it cpo. the salesman told me it was common and b/c they had washed it a few times in a row for me before i picked it up. he said it would go away after the high beams were on for 15 min or so. well 2 months later they are worse than ever. i was having an exhaust put on at another dealership and he said they were the worse that he had ever seen. he contacted AOA and they are going to cover it. with all these posts it seems like its more than just a wear and tear issue. so my suggestion would be to try and fight for it. you never know.
