Pioneer Avic D3 or Avic F90BT

Looks like the d3 works best, but I wanted to ask opinions and experience with these two.

Also if anyone is tryin' to sell theirs in new condition im interested

Looking for one with the metra kit, ipod cord & nav connection

Is it easy to set up so the DVD can play while driving?

I'm going with the D3. And I believe that they can be specially wired so you can watch DVD's anytime.

I was thinking on just installing it myself, always have installed my pioneers on all my cars and with the metra kit im assuming its fairly simply

I got the d3 and i love it. navi works great. As for the bypass it is the easiest thing to do. you take the mute wire out of the original spot int he harness and relocate it to another spot and ground that and the parking brake wire and your good to go.

Video bypass is very easy. D3s are nice, I put one in my wifes Navigator with all the add ons. Eclipse backup camera works awesome with it btw.

Just go with the 90bt from ebay with the live.com 30% discount, less than $480 shipped, comes with the ipod cord and it has a hard drive for the navi unlike the D3's disk. With the new update most of the bugs are fixed too.

i just bought and installed the avic 900bt and no complaints...i would say get the f90bt just make sure it has 2.0 firware if not update it urself and you will be very very happy

also dont forget on the avic d3 you can change the color of the buttons and screen to red and match out cars interior lights PERFECTLY!!! as for the avic f90bt you cant do that.

I have an F90BT and kindof wish it was a 700....

1. I don't need DVD with videos on my ipod
2. Don't think I would notice the difference with 2v preouts
3. The two year warrenty isn't even good unless you have it installed by an authorized dealer
4. The apple composite cable is nicer looking and works better (from a few accnts at avic411.com)
5. The matte bezel matches our interiors better

Yes you can. All the AVIC F-series allow you to change colors (some 32,000 colors available).

as was said above me, the f90bt can match the exact same as the D3. With how cheaply I got the f90bt I'm way glad I got it over the 700 because:
1. I like the ability to play DVD's (though I can watch movies on my ipod)
2. I'm going to be putting in a competition quality sound system, so the 4v preouts are a big deal to me.
3. I wish it had the matte finish like the 700.

i have the d3 and love it plays my dvd's, music from teh iphone, navi, etc. i know that f90 does also but isnt the screen on the d3 larger?

yeah the screen is larger and also what i like about the d3 more than the f90 is that the knob isnt so big, looks more stock

looks like the new f90bt has better navigation, 3D imaging, better ipod controls, 2 more outputs & no need for nav cds. Only about $100 more on ebay.

Anyone have a vendor that sells these cheaper? Discount coupons that someone was mentioning!?

The F90BT is better functionally. Better features, graphics, interface, ect. However I believe the D3 unit looks better. As in when installed in the Audi dash...the D3's screen is bigger and the volume knob and buttons are small and simple. IMO the D3 just looks more OEM-like than the F90BT. But don't get me wrong, the newer unit is functinally better.

One big advantange for me of the newer series over the D3 is that you can play video from your ipod

just to clear this up. you can play your ipod videos on the D3...if you have old firmware you can control it from the D3. If not you have to select it from the ipod before you start. so you hit the ipod on the d3, then video then go to the ipod and pick which movie you want to watch. i do it all the time.

I have the D3 and I love it. I installed it myself and am running on the stock Bose speakers and it sounds 100x better than the Symphony HU with the same speakers. I also have the Sirius, iPod and Bluetooth adapters and they all work flawlessly. Installation with all the components and running the wiring took about 6 hours, but I'm pretty amateur and I'm very careful.

I love how you can set the colors of LEDs and the screen "theme" to RED to give it a nice stock look. Other than the GIAC chip it's the best mod I've done to my car :)

I got the 90 and its one of my fave upgrades so far. I watch DVD's all the time and the screen is big enough for me. The button option is cool and matches perfect with my radar and boost gauge. I like the glossy finish. Nav is awesome on it, no glitches yet. Bluetooth and Ipod features work flawlessly and its all easy to do. I don't think the .3 screen size difference matters as much as the other options. I paid around $850 after installation hardware and labor. More than what most people paid but I was one of the first with it back in October.

^^^ the live.com discount is gone on ebay for now. You never know what or when the discount will be there. Live.com changes their discount rate all the time. Right now there is none, I've been dissapointed at this and I hope it comes back to ebay!
