    B6 Tail Light Bolt

    Hello,

    First time poster.

I had the most bizarre thing happen yesterday. I took my 2004 A4 to a touch-less carwash and during the process my rear driver-side light housing fell off, fell into the chain conveyor belt, and got pulverized into hundreds of tiny pieces. I've found some OEM replacement housings already but none of them come with the securing bolt, which I need as well. From what I've read it's an 8mm bolt pattern but I am not sure if this is something I can just pick up at a hardware store or if it's an OEM part as well.

    Thank you for the help.

If u cant find the bolt in your trunk, just take the taillight housing u bought to the hardware store and fit the correct bolt. It will most likely be metric. Within reason there are some parts that just need to be OEM sourced and all but I've done this several times. In fact I was looking for a shortened bolt for the emissions SAI pump bracket that bolts to the engine block and the dealer turned me on to the idea.

Go for it u'll be surprised all the decent stuff that fits in there.

A hardware store should have it, if not hit up the stealership and get charged 5+ bucks for a bolt.

Thank you both. I will try to find a fitting bolt. Otherwise, like Charlescrs6 said, I will contact the dealership for a replacement. Thanks again.

The screw thread is 6 mm X 1.0 mm diameter/thread pitch, I am not sure of the length, but it's about 35 mm IIRC. I recommend a hex head socket screw (allen head) it will be easier to remove/install. You can compare to the other side for length. Stainless Steel would be nice but not essential.
