supercharge a6 4.2 question

im thinking of supercharging my a6 4.2 next year... will the stock transmission blow into 1000 pieces if i do this? what mods will i have to make on top of this..change torque converter?..thanks all

If I remember from AW, our tranny is rated for 300hp from the people that make it(ZF I think). So using that number to do the math, I would assume supercharging it would grenade it. I mean in a lot of cases, it can't handle stock power.

thats exactly what i though. My S6 has 340hp stock plus aftermarket stuff i installed which puts it over 360hp. and i have no issues with the trany. I would think that the tourqe converter needs to be upgraded. Will need to speak with PES guys about this. Most of the 4.2 cars have tip (A6, S6, A8, Allroad, Toureg).

I spoke with PES, and they still are taking donor cars, but I am in So Cal, and they are in PA, but will be getting the kit when it comes out. They are extecting 20% increase with stage 1, and 35%-40% in HP with stage 2 & intercooler. (That would put the S6 up to 476 HP...yummy!!!!) I asked about the tranny, and they expect no problems. Waiting for more info.

You could blow up 2 trannys and an engine and be cheaper then doing it on a brand new car. Warranty? I hope you were typing that after happy hour. I think if you roll in with a big ass super charger on top of the engine they will notice...just maybe. A little software flashing maybe, but come on.

i hardly doubt the regular 4.2 trannys are rated for 600hp, they are not the same as rs6 trannys which can handle up to 550hp i think, since chipped rs6's are running on stock trannys just fine... so our 4.2 tranny would be around 400, 450 tops...

4.2/S6 = ZF5HP24A which is rated at 420lbs NM of TQ
RS6 = ZF5HP24? With beefed up guts


Now if I am correct you have to equate to Newton Meters(NM) here. Which would be multiplying 420 x 0.73. That would mean that the 5HP24 is rated at 309.8 lbs of tq.

nice work A+..and im thinkin that it is better to wait for better kits to come out..im thinking this "bolt right on and run it supercharged" is gonna lead to a blow it right off and have no engine..i asked them what mods them do to the engine to allow the extra power, and they gave me the " it involves no modifications to anything, just simply a supercharger"..certain to have problems with this...ill wait til i get a newer vehicle with less miles like 30k and then ill go to town on it

the idea of doing it is really great, if Audi didn't come out with their own supercharged version of the car from factory

where were all these guys 4-5 years ago when everyone and their mom wanted more power for their sleeper? people have moved on allready

honestly, I hope that people buy the kit, and company makes money on it, but, at this point in time, it makes more sense to not dump any more money into a C5 or a C6 and simply wait for the new version of the car

and with such a great engine, it's sure to be a sleaper

at this point it would make more sense for these companies to start figuring out what mods to put out for the new version of the car with a new supercharged version of the engine - come up with software, exhaust, intake setups, or atleast ideas on the paper

talk about reinventing the wheel at this point in time, kind of sad

it's also sad because there were people who were swaping 5spd transmissions from A4's into S4's because of better gearing for drag racing, talks about using 2.8 engine's parts in S4/A6 to make them perform better; all these talks, while all these guys had to do was simply come out with a good reliable kit "back then" - and people wouldn't have to deal with these "franken-cars"

would have been a great alternative to buying a 2.7T as well, even if your supercharged 2.8/4.2 was still a TIP and not a manual

but whatever, I'm just ranting, and I know that the talk of the s/c kits for 2.8 and 4.2's have been out and about for years

also, if you DO do go with the supercharger, don't be scared of breaking anything; if it breaks - upgrade; if you have the $$$ to spend on the s/c kit, then you should be in position of being able to do/fix w/e breaks in process; if you don't - then don't do it at all

so you trying to say that my S6 was build with 310 lbs.ft.?
thats kinda close dont you think? No way in hell audi will make a transmission that can handle 309.8 lbs.ft. and tune the engine to 310 lbs.ft.

Everything that has a rating on it can perform at much greater level. 2.7t engines are 250 hp but can run at 400 with stock internals. My 2.8 v6 with supercharger produced 40% more power and tourqe with no problems to engine or trany. So the engine and trany are capable handling more power with no upgrades.

Everythink can blow if you push it hard enough.

I dont know the numbers but most of 4.2 cars are tip. So why would vf, apr, mtm, pes try to make kits if they wouldnt work.

Audi doesn't make the transmission, they buy it from ZF. And Yes, they S6 does have the same 5HP24A. Messed up huh? That might help explain why us 4.2 boys enjoy the fear of the trans failing. Its kind of common knowledge that Audi and ZF didn't really plan out the tranny right for the car/motor. Simple things like Things like the output speed sensor wires that run over the catalytic converter and go bad(READ ME), and it not being up to snuff with the power. I mean BMW used it on the 540/740 and I rarely hear about them failing. They use the 5HP24 though. Maybe the tranny just wasn't meant to handle AWD?

And to my knowledge MTM is the only one with a functioning 4.2 kit and isn't that only for the new RS4? That is a completely different beast.

Don't get me wrong man, I love the fact that this charger is supposed to come out. I would love to and probably will get one for my car.

Thats all well and good for the newer chain driven 4.2 that all the 04+ cars have. Are any of these companies making anything for the old one?

And thank you for showing me, I really had no idea about those for the newer cars. I will say that S4 vid did seem slow like the one guy said.
