Yup, hundreds of pounds of more weight and an extra 10% driveline loss...

If you are staying under 300whp and don't mind staying only decently quick in the corners, buy a MK4... My daily is nothing but wonderful

Hmmm... Fwd Audi layout must suck then... My VW puts down just a handful shy of 200whp and can dead hook 2nd in a straight line... It's on 195 tires and open diff at the moment too, and only weights 2961 with a full tank of gas and shit in the car...

I think it has to do with it being lighter and the fact that more of its weight is actual right over the tires.

If i do that, the next thing i know i'll be on the pavement. Or worse. It's got a mind of its own if you launch hard into second and aren't ready to fight with it.

I don't drive my car in the rain, it's totally unpredictable. It lets go at the slightest hint of boost, even on really smoothe road surfaces it slides all over the place if you launch hard.

With FWD you get torque steer. But IMO audi did a good job controlling it. I had 02' toyota solora before my a4 and the torque steer was crazy

Yeah, they did pretty well. A friend of mine has one of those Renault Megane F1's, man, you spend more time fighting the car than driving it. Not cool.

    Re: vw madness

I had a recently totaled frontrak a4 and replaced it with a quattro and the difference is huge. They have very different driving dynamics. The fwd car did pretty well for a fwd, no real torque steer problems due to the equal length front axles. even with a chip, tp and other mods, but the quattro handles much better, and wheelspin isnt an issue. The feeling of launching them is entirely different as well, the quattro really does away with the feeling of being pulled and the effects of the weight transfer aren't nearly as severe.

No. Torque steer comes from different length drive shafts on a front wheel drive car, Toyota fixes that with a carrier bearing on the passenger side drive shaft and I believe Audi has equal length drive shafts. Neither should have any torque steer.

    Re: vw madness

Less weight and more power stock.

Wheelspin sucks, but I don't know anything about that ... I busted all 4 loose today going straight, doin 40mph in 4th gear ... it was snowing.

    There's a reason why K0x MK4's can hit 13's and we can't.

Personally I like the balance and overall feel of the B5, over the MK4. I wouldn't buy a Jetta though, only a Golf/GTI.

Its because the K03s on a GTi is bigger than the k03s on a A4. Ever see the hot side on one of those turbos?
Also a lot to do with the fact that the cars are lighter and they have less drivetrain loss.
