Brighter tails with VAG-COM, good with tint

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
First, props to John Stahmann over on AW for finding this

To increase the brightness of the three tail light bulbs, go into 09-Cent.Elec., choose Adaptation-10, then on Channels 02; 03; 04 you can set the brightness in % for each of Brake; Tail; Rear-Fog bulbs.

Enter your new % value (the range allowed and standard setting come up in a pop-up info box, max is 40%), press Test then Save if you like it.

I found all my brightness' were set much lower than "standard" so I bumped them all up to 30%. Huge difference. My tint is fairly dark and I feel much better for doing this. I think it's a good reply to have in mind if you get stopped for tinted tails. "It's a feature of the car to allow for tint!"

Just to check one more thing, I set the brake light brightness level to the highest allowed, 40%, then pressed the brake. They still go way brighter (to 100% maybe, duh), so there is no worry that you'll have no brake lights by max'ing them at 40% brightness as tail lights. Same thing goes for rear-fogs too. There is a DRL brightness setting in a higher channel number too if you run those.

I also turn on my rear fogs when someone is tailgating me, they think it's my brakes and back of. But seriously this info along with the info for one-touch indicator adaptation should be in the B7 sticky, if not already. OP, good on you for finding this.

I remember reading threads about this, but never actually saw an answer. Could anyone direct me to what is being discussed here? Searching for one touch indicator got me nowhere...

The feature is called "Comfort Blinking". My searching of the web showed it's only adjustable on the VW Polo. I read somewhere VW Golfs allowed you to adjust as well but didn't find anything else to actually confirm that.

This can be adjusted on the Touaregs 09-Central Elect --> Adaptation Channel 2. I thought that I could adjust it on my Q7, but frankly, I haven't bothered to look into it. 3 blinks suits me just fine

I have this habit of waiting a second before I change lanes, just to warn people, and by then, two of the three blinks is already over and done with. I need to change it to 4 or MAYBE 5, but that might be too much. I think 4 is good.

Did not work for me. 2005.5 B7TQ. Wagcom let you enable or disable the function but you can't adjust the number of blinks. Did I miss something?

I'm almost 100% sure the number of blinks can't be changed on a B6/7. IIRC the channel for that is actually used for the tail light brightness level in our cars.

And since Moro was the main contributor on the whole VAG-COM thread, I'm gonna go ahead and believe him here... It would be nice to have that option though...
