    Re: adjustable cam gear

I was using it. Decided to go back to the OEM cam gear for it made tuning easier for Mark@ASP and we were able to adjust the timing advance curve to whatever we so desired. As a result I am selling my Cat Cams adjustable cam gear.

It depends on how you look at it. I had the ability to adjust my tune accordingly so we went with the OEM gear.

    Re: adjustable cam gear

Really a dyno is needed to see/get best results. You would set it straight up and do a pull, see the results and then decide to either adv. or ret. it, and do a pull, so on and so forth. It's a trial and error thing.

    Re: adjustable cam gear

Well i got the Eurospec one, thing is that bought "the wrong one", cuase i saw on ebay 2 bids one for 179 and thge other one for 199.. difference is the first is for pre 2000 engines and the second one for 2000+.. thing is i have an AEB head that is pre 2000 since i dont think they made them after 2000... my mechanic says its identical to the stock one and that there is no difference in the cam gear of the 1.8ts dont matter the year...
    anyone knows somehting about it?

    Re: adjustable cam gear

The only difference performance wise oem compared to aftermarket is that the aftermarket ones are lighter. The aftermarket ones also have more of the weight concentrated toward the center (centrifugal force)

    For aftermarket cams. yes.

The OEM AEB cams have a different cam gear if I recall correctly. OP never said he's using aftermarket cams even though we all think he is.

Im at revo stage 2 with suporting mods. If I put a adjustable cam gear on when I do my timing belt would it be worth the money? Can you really feel a difference by adjusting it? I have heard things like you can kinda chage your power band...

One question. I installed the adjustable from eurospec on mine.
Thing is u cant put the plastic back on, due to the fact that the bolts touch the rear side of the plastic protective panel.
So i removed it for now but not too keen on running without it, for obvious reasons...

    Any solution for that...?

You use the camgear based on the block you have, not the head. If you have an 06A block then you use the later adjustable camgear. I am not a fan of the Eurospec unit. I have used the AUotech & CAT Unit (branded as CAT's) with success.Highly recommended most motor builds.

    grind down the plastic cover

downside to no cover? if debris flies into the engine bay through the hood grille it can hit the timing belt and cause a nick. A nick will lead to a tear which will lead to a broken belt and fucked cylinder head.

Used adjustable cam gears on my Hondas w/ VTEC and used to see serious gains.
But it is a trial and error thing on a dyno. Takes time and someone who knows what they are doing.
The bolts are almost always gonna touch, makes adjustments easier. Used to either grind down the inside or just cut it in half.
IMO, one can upgrade the turbo and now there are much more computer tuning options so there are other ways to go to get more HP. If you are doing a full engine build, then go ahead and do it, but your money is better spent else where.

Yes that is what i plan to do....

I know the downsides of no cover...u are just playing with ur luck actually, and i definately dont like that with all the money spent on my build...it is a shame...
