H.I.D. Kits aren't relatively expensive, as I bought an H7 8000k color temp Xentec kit for my car for 46 bucks off ebay. Attached is a pic of my car with my H.I.D's.

    Re: headlight bulbs

you'd have to look into your owner's manual to see exactly what kind of bulb your a6 is. as far as bulb changes, it should be easy as just that to replace it to a different color temp. is it an aftermarket H.I.D. Kit or OEM?

    Re: headlight bulbs

i have a 55 watt 4500k kit in my a6 and they put out almost 3 times the amount of my 35 watt oem hids.. mine for my projectors are d2s bulbs.. but just remember dont get anything over 4500k for projectors becuase you lose alot of light.. the higher the color temp the less amt of light is put out... but yea id get a 55 watt kit 4500k from DDMtuning.com they come with a lifetime warrenty and there about 110 with shipping, they last a long time too, there a good reputable company to buy from.

The 4.2 has projector foglights. You get a killer beam pattern with HID's in the fogs and the light output is awesome...

    Re: headlight bulbs

i had hids in my fog projectors a while back but when i washed the car and over time the balast got wet and the water got into the back of the projector fogs and damaged the balast and the bulbs and now i just leave halogens because they make the hids pop out more.. and its less of a hassle

    Re: headlight bulbs

i made my front and rear fogs both independent by rewireing them completly and putting two little switches on the dash on the right side of the headlight switch.

I connected fogs to parking lights circuit -- have fogs both alone (with Pk lights) and with headlights

You might want to do a little more research because alot of people have had prolems with wires melting doing that mod.

I decided not to do it based on enough bad experiances.

    Good luck
