I have a CVT front wheel drive. I have a clunk or popping noise as the car slows to a stop. The right side motor mount was broken, so I replaced that as well as the snub. After a test drive it was doing the same thing. Then I realized the inner CV boot was ripped and leaking grease. I suspect the broken motor mount stressed it.
My question is- would a failing drive shaft account for the noise, or do I have bigger problem? How tough is the job to change the drive shaft? ECS has the drive shaft assembly for $140, but a couple of shops I have called are qouting me over $800 for the job. Is there more to it? I have done many basic repairs myself, but am worried about trying this one. I figured I would invest in a Bentley Manual when I ordered the part. Are there any special tools I would need? Any insight would be great. Thanks
