just came on today after driving for like 5 min, any idea what it could be, has this happened to anyone else, and what was the reason.
also just wanna make sure that the yellow triangle with ! inside it and a yellow arrow goin counter clockwise around it is infact the ESP light

mine comes on when it cuts my throttle and applies brakes when i have too much fun but other than that i havent seen nor heard of that happening before. What does it do when you press the button? Could it have accidentally gotten turned on? and after you turn the car off and then turn it on again does the light come back?

I believe one reason is a bad brake sensor or a "blip" with the sensor. I know that it will happen if your alignment is off, at least that's been my experience.

Ex: Your battery voltage exceeds standing voltage of 16v

Or, you just pulled the battery

Maybe you decided to slap on a FMIC or a intake, that will cause your ESP light to come on solid for a few cycles. If nothing is seriously wrong, it will disappear.

Good answers guys! I wasnt sideways or in slippery conditions. I was driving slowly and it just came on out of nowhere. One time my dad pressed it by accident and he didnt know. I easily pressed the button and turned it off. But today, after it came on, I pressed the esp button a couple of time and it didnt turn off. Any reason why this would happen?

I don't think the light will persist. but if it does, I suggest you get a VAG.

the owner book says that the ESP light can turn on by itself because a system error, it also says to turn off the engine and turn it on again to reboot the ESP system.

well thank for all the help guys, especially the VAG-codes, lol. I turned the car off yesterday and it didnt come back on last night or today, so hopefully its nothin big, just a system error

mine sometimes comes on (stays on till i turn the car off, then back on) when i enter or exit a off camber driveway when a wheel comes off the ground. It is usually paired with the ABS light. Once i turn the car off, then back on it goes away. The system senses a wheel is not contacting the ground and puts in safe/limp mode.

Could be a number of things. One quick fix is (and I'm sure someone has mentioned this) replace brake sensor. $9.00 part that could possibly fix your problem. VW dealers carry this part. I would look into this first before anything. Just have someone press the brake for you and stand in the back...if the brake lights stay on while foot is off the brake, then it's brake sensor for sure. Faulty brake sensor can kick in the ESP light for no reason. Good luck.

just because the lights come on in the rear when you press the braked does not mean that the switch is good. the switch controls a lot more than just the brake lights. like cruise control, esp, and maybe some others... personally i would try the switch, its a cheap part and it worked for me. but thats just my .02

Push the button to turn it off......a little light comes up on the screen and you go have fun!!!

Push the button again to turn ESP on.......little light goes off and you become a responsible driver!

The sooner your try to replace the brake light switch the, the sooner you can possibly fix your problem. It wouldn't hurt to spend $10 on a part that can most likely fix your problem. Check your local VW dealership, they're usually cheaper than Audi for the same exact part. It also comes with install instructions. Really cheap and easy fix. I say go for it!

I'm in the same boat. Been going on for a about a week now. Is constantly on now. Wasn't driving out of the norm, can't get it to go off now. I have a VAG and I'm seeing no codes come up for it. Didn't jump anyone, or do anything else, it was just normal then bam. Have no idea.

if you have a faulty brake light switch (5$ part literally) it sets off the esp light. the car things the car is braking and accelerating at once so it shuts off esp.

any updates here, my light started coming on in the eveings this summer when it was 100* on my way home, driving like a little old lady at 55mph, and wouldn't turn off, but every morning on the way to work it was fine when it was 65* degrees out. I figured maybe it was a heat thing, then this morning it was 39* and it popped back on 15 min into my flat land drive at 55mph? I checked the brake light thing and they work, so i guess i should order the brake light switch first? On a side note, a few times i've lost throttle response, where i'm going down the road and pushing on the pedal with no response, i push the clutch in, let it back out and the throttle is fine? This has only happened maybe 3-4 times, the ESP light has happned like 30-40 times.....the car does have 145K on it?
