How do I remove my mirror frame?

My mirror frame broke and I want to take it off and fix it but I have no idea how to take the actual frame off. I have the mirror and trim off but I need to know how to get the metal frame out. Thanks.

on most cars there is just one decent sized bolt that goes through the door with a 12mm or so nut on the inside. there should be a piece of molding specifically for that on the inside directly behind the mirror unit. i never looked on our cars, but most are like that. usually only one small piece of molding on the interior of the door must be removed.

    hope that gets you started...

I had to take apart my entire door when i painted my car and it didnt seem like there are very many other ways of removing the mirror piece due to the wires that run deep into the door.

yeah that sounds about right. i only took one off a jeep and a gti, not a b6. At least our doors are really easy to take apart. they just lift right up once the inner screws are out
