    RoadTrip - 3400miles. suggestions?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
ok so me and 3 of my buddies planning on going to Florida during winter break. I want to visit key west so from chicago one way its about 1700miles.

the car is 01 1.8tqm (giac chip). 85k miles. all the maintenance up to date. stock sport suspension, pretty bald dunlop tires. 205/55/16.

all passengers and items would be an extra 1000pounds (lol) sounds like alot.

any suggestions on tire pressure? should i use some kind of octane booster? fuel additive...? any other suggestions?

wer planning on going for a week

If your tires are bald why not replace them hmmmm? No just have AAA and turn the key and go.

    Re: RoadTrip - 3400miles. suggestions?

I run 40-42psi in my tires year'round. No issues to date, and I stilll have shoulder wear ... fukin corners...

As far as fuel additive? You don't need any. As long as you run clean fuel, Shell, BP, etc. you won't have a problem.
I also found that I could run 89/91 octane on long trips and pick up a little mpg. As long as you stay out of boost, you can run 89oct as long as you want. I'm sure I'll get bashed for it, but it's true. You only need the higher octane if you're boosting.

Dude, replace your tires. You don't want to pay top dollar for tires in FL do you?

New tires, at max inflation per the data plate in the gas tank cap.
Change the oil, clean the AF, and check all your fluids. A few spare coil packs: they're cheap.

High speed cornering also can cause shoulder, wear usually more pronounced than camber wear.

If I was going on a 3400 mile trip I would change the oil, check the tire pressure, check the spare tire pressure, check the fluids, fill it with gas, get a mountain dew while at the gas station, get in and drive 95 until I got pulled over and then drive the speed limit the rest of the way. Last time I went to Florida I didn't get pulled over, it took 18 hours to get there and 24 hours to get home because the girlfriend said she wasn't going to die riding with me home.
