    IPOD For Your B7?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What do you guys use to connect your Ipod to your B7 A4? I have a 2005.5 and have not seen any options to do so.

What are my options, cost included?

I am very partial to aftermarket stereos, but I have used Audi's Ipod integration and it sucks in comparison. This unit has Garmin Nav which is nice and full ipod integration. :)

I have a pic of the unit installed in my car but apparently i didn't upload it. I can send it to you when I get to town if you want it.

Upgrade the nav unit if u have rsn-e with a new nav disc, then vag-com it to unlock the aux function, and you can create an aux input using audi parts. This will then connect into your ipod headphone jack.

hey, im in the same boat as you. it looks like the dice kit has the best features. it charges whill in use and you can use your steering wheel controls still. its like $180 shipped from dice.

there are also ebay kits that are only like $75. anyone know the drawbacks of the cheaper ebay ones?

    Re: IPOD For Your B7?

    get an RNS-E NAV unit.

It's the factory NAV unit for B7 with LCD screen etc.

You may find the iPod thing unnecessary, as the RNS-E system has 2 slots for SD memory cards...allowing you to pop in up to 8 GB of MP3 music right into the car. Here's a pic of the RNS-E installed, and below it is a pic of the SD cards (click a button, and the screen folds down, transformers like, and there are the slots.

    Awesome feature.

I think to buy/install the system it's about $1000. If you're going to spend $200-300 on an ipod adapter anyway, and another 300 on a TomTom or something, might be the best mod you ever do to your car.

Technically I believe that the SD slots only support 2GB cards, anything above 2 it does not read. This is the nav unit I was saying that with a new Nav unit, you can create a AUX input, also you could enable a TV input if you would rather and have a video feature as well. Many people do this and install a DVD player, TV tuner, or a video input for their iPod. I simply did the AUX mod as I had the RSN-E unit in my car, and now run a headphone cable to my iPod

nope...4GB is the max and they do work. half of the RNS-E owners on Audizine have them.

it's just hard to find 4GB SD cards...everyone sells SDHC, but they aren't readable in RNS-E...that's the 'above 2 it does not read' that you always hear about

Where does the wire connect from? Is this a drill a hole in your glovebox type install or is there a aux jack that i'm unaware of. I have the cd changer, so I don't think I have an aux jack as well.

There are two pins on the existing harness that are used to create the AUX input, it doesn't matter if you have the CDC or not.

Also, you don't need to drill anything. If you look in your glove box you will see little circles/squares that you can punch out to create a pass-through for the cable.

True story, I have two 4GB cards in mine right now.

You can find them on www.newegg.com for pretty cheap. I got the Transcend 133x for about $10 each with shipping.

    Re: IPOD For Your B7?

Be sure to get the SD cards that DO NOT say SDHC as this is a different format and is not backwards compatible to the legacy SD cards. New SDHC card readers should be able to read both however.

So, yes, you probably can get SD cards at 4GB that will work but probably not anything higher. Also be sure to stay away from all cheap brands of SD cards as they are very flaky.

Many companies do not follow the Secure Digital standards (SanDisk and Kingston do) and have to watch out for what the speed class is... the slow speed 4GB SD cards will probably work but it's hard to say what speed they have characterized their cards at such as "133X", etc.

The OP asked if there were any other options...so the RNS-E was brought up for its AUX functionality. It was also the mentioned that it has the SD cards and the OP may not even need an iPod.

So, I'd say we stayed pretty on point.

I dont think that will fit the RNS-E since the connector is way different. Do you have it on yours?

I think he was replying to the OP, not you.

There is a DIY on www.audiforum.us on how to do it. I haven't done it yet because I haven't had the time, but it looks fairly straight forward.

I use this. Less hassle with trying to find the right station to avoid buzzing and so forth. Can't complain about sound quality either.
