    ASP 89mm exhaust

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hey guys so with the money i have saved up i have decided to go and purchase an exhaust. I got the exhaust from a fellow audiziner (nastynogaro), i have 2 questions?

1.) the cat back ASP exhaust came off of a 6-speed and i have a tip. will it still fit and install correctly?

2.) i have heard the ASP exhaust hangers are unreliable and break. is this true?

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

It's about one of the best quality products I have ever bought. Unless they break due to rust or something, it is not an issue for me.

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

    hey man

the hangers definitely don't break easily. A buddy of mine installed it wrong I think he didn't hook up a hanger or something and the exhaust shook a bit and eventually a different one broke off.

I can't stress enough to get nice new bolts for the sleeves. I'll be surprised if those rusted bolts don't break from re-tightening.

    definitely get new bolts,

and it may get close to the trans, as the auto is a good 3" wider.

The hangers are solid. Just make sure you hang ALL of them correctly. In any case, its that thick rubber holders you have to worry about. If its torn (if thats even possible)...

Yes the exhaust will fit both a 6 speed and a TIP. Only the DP's are different.

I've heard of the hangers breaking in the past and it had nothing to do with install (not sure how you can f-up an exhaust install...). ASP took care of the problem, no questions asked. Or you could just have it rewelded at an exhaust shop, no biggie. But I haven't heard of any problems recently, so maybe ASP corrected the issue.

How can it be crooked? Maybe you cawk'd your head a little too far when you admired your install.

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

lol maybe. so i was driving it today and it started making a weird noise when the car is in park and idling. sounds like a clicking noise from under the car. I dont remember hearing that with the stock one.

Also i saw fumes coming from under the car, like where the exhaust hooks up to the DP;s. Is that normal? or does that mean i have an exhaust leak?

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

clicking noise and fumes = exhaust leak. Did you get new bolts and tighten the sleeves down correctly? I've never had a leak when this setup was on my car..

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

i gave it to a shop to install and they told me they took a bolt off of my stock exhaust and used those...

are you sure, i looked under the car today and didnt see fumes but heard a clicking noise.

are exhaust leaks bad, like a boost leak?

well, you would smell the fumes, not see them..

exhaust leak in the cat back portion isnt "bad", not like a boost leak, but it is still something you should address as that would piss me off like crazy

If he has an exhaust leak and it is cold enough out where he lives, he will SEE the exhaust fumes coming from the crack/leak if there is one

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

    hey man,

happy thanksgiving to you as well. As I said earlier, it's really imperative to get new bolts when installing a used exhaust. I bet you there is a little gap under one of the sleeves from not being clamped down tight enough. There are NO cracks in this exhaust. It performed 100% fine when I took it off my car.

Good luck, and glad you are liking it. As for the "crooked" issue, you'll need to go underneath and adjust its position on the hangers so it sits flush.

Were you able to polish up the inner "lip" of the tips good?

    Re: ASP 89mm exhaust

    Hey mark,

Thanks for everything. I plan on going to home depot tomorrow and getting replacement bolts and having them change them for me. As for it being crooked I looked at it and its not I was just looking at it in a weird way.

As for polishing the tips, while I was at work I used glass cleaner with amonia and a towel and it came right off. It looks and sounds awesome. Thanks again for everything.

    Good to hear man.

You should pick up some downpipes or piggies now to really hear how awesome the ASP sounds!

Do a boost leak test. Search b5 s4 forum and you can find how to make your own for cheap at home depot.
