Lots of guys do it. I don't recommend it. leaving it on helps to keep the engine bay cleaner and it also reduces the temperature under the hood by streamlining the air flow across the lower venturi ducts molded into the pan.

how many cases of this are there? i dont see how that could happen if the hoses are all on tight...(and if they arent on tight they would blow off)

    Re: plastic cover

It also helps reduce road noise but you would be fine without it.

Correct. In fact I believe the official Audi description of the part is a "sound Damper" or something similar.

Edit: Found it. It's official name is "Damping Pan".

I've been without mine for about a year and a half I'm always tweeking stuff under there it seems... car feels a bit unstable on the fwy above 70mph or so.

Unless u are DSMIC the stock DV location is up near the cooling fans. Dirt "should not" affect the DV since it should be a closed loop... unless of course it is a Forge Splitter or GFB Stealth.

    Re: plastic cover

took mine off two years ago and never put it back one since i have the car apart so much. Winston just make a aluminum one that looks pretty badass, if he ever start mfg-ing them i'm going to throw one of them on, nothing like a good solid metal skidplate!

I just started a new thread a couple down stating that I just thrashed mine this morning going to work....this could be an option instead of buying a new one and just leave it off.
