Drop In HIDs without VAG COM?

So it's about time to get some HIDs for my DEPOs, the light output with the halogens is plain terrifying. So I wanna pick up a drop in kit, but I'm confused with this whole VAG COM thing, I'm still fairly new to VW/Audi and don't see why you have to hack the mainframe to switch headlights haha. I know a couple of you guys are running the drop in kit with your DEPOs but are they really plug and play or do I have to get a resistor or VAG COM to ensure they work? I can't have an "oops pow surprise, no headlights!" when I try to head home from work one night, ya dig? I got the housings from Darren, but he hasn't got back to me yet on the "adapter" his kit comes with or even a price for the kit separate...thanks guys!

No VAG needed with a drop in kit.

Re: Drop In HIDs without VAG COM?

Im planning to get the Depo with hid drop in kit from darren that he sells now but he never got my PM back.....
The Mtech is the best for who has halogen set up. They dont require VAG-com but its got the highest price currently compare to other HID kit.

My concern is, is the HID drop in kit which included in DEPO projector quality gurrantted? I heard nothing about that HID drop in kit from darren whether its good or bad.
    Anyone have experience?

Re: Drop In HIDs without VAG COM?

Thanks Jeff, I was hoping that but I wasn't sure. I contacted Darren about the drop in kit and he said they come with a special "adapter" to avoid a bulb out or VAG COM, so I was confused. But since Darren still hasn't got back to me, even on a price...I'll trust someone who actually has done it already haha.

Any recommendations on a kit other than the MTECs? I'm looking to do it fairly cheap, plus I just can't see there being a significant enough difference between the MTECs and say an Ebay brand to justify the extra $250-300...my roommate had some Ebay's in his SRT4 and never had a problem, but is there really going to be a difference to outweigh the extra cost?

you got to be careful with ebay, especially with parts for audi's just cuz they are a much nicer brand of car than dodge or the likes and can get kinda picky about what goes in it. Also, just always be careful with what you buy off ebay, i would always ask around first to see if ppl have bought this product from there yet cuz chances are there's somebody who has and could tell you if it was bad or not. not trying to deter you, but with audi's and ebay, sometimes you get what you pay for

VVME.com is about the cheapest you will find. I have them and they work great. I had a set from visionbulbs.com on my B6 and they were a little better quality but much more expensive. Darren puts a resistor in his but i've only seen 1 or 2 instances where an HID kit caused any problems.

I've been following another thread about these lights. Does anyone have pic and how is the quality of those lights?

Lights are ok, good fit and finish which was surprising to me. But for the less than the price of one OEM housing, I couldn't pass them up. Overall, I give them an 8/10. -1 for the angel eyes and -1 for use with halogens a no-no and not being cc'd already.

So I checked out vvme.com and it seems kinda bootleg...you sure they're legit jeff? Haha, they were $40.99 plus shipping for the low beams and there is a tattoo starter kit for sale underneath them...lol.
