Post Any 19" + coilover ride quality regret stories?

I've got 19's with 235/35 PS2's and Stasis SL on my B6S4 sedan. I've had this set up for about 1 year now. The handling is fantastic, but rough roads/sharp bumps are MUCH more harsh than the 18's and oem suspension. Could I get some relief with a different make of tire, or is this just the way it is? I plan to put the original wheels/tires back on as a test to see how of the harsh ride is due to the Stasis SL kit.

ooooh, let me know, I was planning on getting the SLs in a few months.

I did ride in an RS4 with SLs and 19's with 30 series tire wall. It seemed like the ride was okay. But bumps were kind of extra bumpy.

Do you mind if I take a ride in your car? Take me through some of those bumps you dislike.

every tire rides differently, some tires have a stiffer side wall, while others have a very soft wall. Michelins seem to be one of the softest tires (that's y they always get nails and such) of course riding on 19's and coils cannot be compared to 18"s and stock suspension, but you gotta pay to play

I find it quite funny when Cali guys complain about bumps and potholes

I didn't complain about potholes - we've got few of those. We do have some damn rough roads though. Badly broken/rippled asphalt is very common. Also, the 5 is bad from LA to OC. I would rather have potholes than rough road - I could at least try to swerve around potholes.

DEAL WITH IT..your rockin semi-racing suspension with 1.5 inches of rubber on it..its gonna be rough riding and savage handling..pick that or keep it factory which is luxury!

What springs are on the SL's or do they not give yo a choice? you are not going to find a better riding tire than the PS2's. They are the best riding tire out there. What is your ride height at?

The SL's come with 750/1100 for the B6S4. They don't give you a choice, but would probably work with you. The 750/1100 are their recommended rates.

not meant as anger its just what i see as a stupid statement..if your putting coilovers on you obviously are sacrificing ride comfort for sportiness and handling..dont complain about bumpiness it is a stupid complaint

that is advice..and im not saying it like to fight you...coilovers are racing suspension and are going to be very STIFF which is their purpose..combined with 19 inch rims that are strapped with barely any rubber on them will only add to the already bumpy ride...if it wasnt a bumpy ride and your coilovers gave over bumps, they would not be serving their purpose..and i have coilovers as well as 19 inch rims...between the beautiful handling and look of being slammed on 19"s, hell no i dont regret it...there is going to be no way to get around coilover bumpiness unless your rockin 4 inches of tire on 15 inch rims...decide your purpose and make the sacrifice you want to make..coilovers-bumpy ride, vicious handling, slammed look---or---stock suspension-luxery and body roll

I have Stasis Tracksports with 19" 245/35/19 and the ride is harsh compared to stock with 18" wheels. I have regrets when I drive in potted areas but smile when I see how it looks. I switched to 245/35/19 from 235/35/19 but it did not make any improvement. I just put my 18" 245/40/18 snow tires on and the ride is better.

Im running H&R coilovers on my B6 with stock wheels at the moment. The looks and the handeling are worth the trade of a bumpy ride. I just ordered a set of 19's so im expecting the ride to get a tad bumpier.

Re: Any 19" + coilover ride quality regret stories?

I don't have 19s. And I don't have coilovers. But I've had slammed cars on coilovers and big wheels in the past. IMHO, from what I've learned the hard way (no pun intended), you know you are going to have to sacrifice ride quality for that look. No way around it. But to me, it's not the ride quality that scares me. With the 19s and about 2 inches of tire and a car that weighs 4000 lbs with you sitting in it by yourself with no cargo, I cringe about dropping 3Gs (easy probably more for wheels I would truly want) on wheels/tires and getting some seriously bent and damaged wheels on bumps. Any of you guys have regrets with the 19s in this aspect?

5000 lb audi a6 and no bent rims..have already sadly hit some large holes but you just have to drive with extreme caution so pretty much glue your eyes on the road and swerve alot..if something is unavoidable hit the breaks and go slow through it...weigh the options of being hit in the back from slowing down and their insurance paying for new stuff or eating 1000 buck cuz you hit a hole too fast =O

Wow, sounds like you're riding perfect. Perfect springs, perfect ride height, perfect tires. Now I want to know what your ride is like first hand. Where are you located?

It really isn't a bad statement as there are some coilover setups out there that rival the stock ride. Stasis MS for one. My PSS9's on 19" LM's were really nice also. No worse than stock on ride quality. One doesn't have to give up ride quality for superior handling.

I have 19s and the Stasis MS kit and a HSport RS4 rear sway on max...car rides like, if not better than stock.

I don't have any regrets with my setup. Do the SLs have compression adjustment or just rebound. Getting something like the Stasis MotorSports or KW Variant 3s really lets you dial in the ride so you can get great handling and a comfy ride. Also losing weight on the corners with light weight wheels and brakes allows you to run stiffer damping without affecting ride quality as much.

Try I-80 past the I-287 interchange in Jersey. New pavement, smooth, 3-4 lanes, and twisty all the way to the Delaware Water Gap. One of my favorite places to cruise.

I'm on 19s and Stasis SLs. Ride quality is definitely harsher with 19s than the stock Avus. I'm not sure how much of the harshness is due to the SLs. They're supposed to ride smoother than stock.

With COs, 19" wheels, and a 120mi commute, you learn how to drink coffee like a champion even with the harsh bumps

Re: Any 19" + coilover ride quality regret stories?

I guess I'm the oddball ... I'm not on Stasis SL's but noticed an improvement in ride going from OEM stock suspension and 18" heavy ass stock wheels to Volk 19's and Startup Racing GT coils. Aside from the coils being known for a better/more compliant ride compared to stock, I'm certain that my lightweight wheels helped... I was pleasantly surprised to feel a better ride the 1st mile I drove when I went from stock suspension and 17" winters to coils with 19's ...

there is a night and day difference between 35 and 40 series tire walls. That could be the issue. The Pasadena G2G is two weeks from today, you should roll out.

    Here's the thread with info:

    http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227441

I didn't find the RS4 with SLs and 30s to be that harsh. He took me over some good and bad roads in west LA.
