    Bad painted colormatched sidemarkers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

Today my ordered B7 A4 colormatched sidemarkers arrived. After I opened the box I noticed that the packing was already opened. Oke no problem, but when I took a good look at the sidemarkers I saw it has a bad paint job. It looks like somebody already sent them back and the tunning shop then sold them to me. (just guessing based upon the packing)

There is dust everywhere in the paint job and there is one dent on one of the sidemarkers. Am I just to picky or is this bad work. I payed $70,- for the sidemarkers. I expected a much better quality from this shop.

    Some pictures:

I'd send them back. What was the shop name? I'm not sure on how or where they get them but ECS tuning starting selling them. $$$ but they sell them. I took mine to a body shop I trusted and they painted the ones that were on my car for $35 for all 4!!

you got them from ECS!!! Man they have dropped the ball lately. I'd send them back and go to the dealer and spend $100 for all four and then go to the body shop and get them painted. It will be more $$$ down the road but you'll know it was done by a professional!!!!

Oke, I finally got them on the phone and they'll send me a new pair. So no bad words about ECS yet.
I only need 2 sidemarkers because I've an Avant.

cant you just buy cheap touch up paint from the dealership.. get a little clear coat.. and paint them yourself?? or is painting more involved than it seems..?

I can do it myself and get the same results as the ones they send me, but I like to have a prof. paint job. That's why I'm paying $70,- for them.

Hmmmm... I got a little bit scared also on the phone. They told me I should wax it and the dust will come out of the paint. I told them that's impossible, so he looked to find the best sidemarkers he had and shipped these today. I also got the feeling that they are all like this.

After going through 2 sets of the LED City Lights that were defective, I sent them back and got my money back. Won't be buying anything else from them.

If everyone hates ECS where should I get a Blackout Grill? Is it like OEMpl.US or something?

    Yeah, I plastidipped mine.
Sand, wash, primer, and then coats of plasti for like maybe 25 bucks.

reminds me of a time my friend bought "smoked sidemarkers" from a private seller over Vortex. Paid a good amount of money, only to get shipped the oem orange side markers with black spraypaint over them lol

that's all those are, why not just get yours painted or get tint laid over them?

    Re: Bad painted colormatched sidemarkers

This project takes about 1 hour. Just buy the paint from your local auto body paint shop. Make sure its the right color code!!! Also buy a clear coat to match the gloss of the car.

Tape off the markers and use a big black trash bag around the tape for overspray and wallah, you have a great paint job.

You'll be happy with the results and especially happy you did it yourself

Tip; Do not spray the markers for more than 4 seconds at a time, otherwise you will get dripping. Spray it and just keep going back to it every other 2 to 3 minutes.

wow man, thats really bad, and i am just going to be blunt.. for 70 bucks ??? you could of easily found side markers from junk yard and had them painted for 50 bucks the really awesome way with a LOT of clear over the paint and without particles under the paint which is clearly visible. - it almost looks like as if though someone took a spray can and sprayed over them and let them dry in a dirty air environment ( hence the painters box ) to avoid such incidents.

needless to say - send it back - you can doooo it - and if there's a problem, dispute the charge!

I don't know if ECS just posted their sale, but you said you paid $70 for them...

It now says $55.96 with free shipping That's not a bad price at all, but I would still rather paint mine myself. But I guess I understand people who have never painted before and don't want to learn... it's only $10 in material and an hour labor though!

You feel a lot of pride when you paint your own stuff.

I just took the Audi badge and the trunk trim off my car and painted them flat black. I love how it looks like.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. I say just send the pieces back and do them yourself. I plan on smoking mine this weekend. Hopefully they'll turn out pretty good.
