I use the built-in one in the allroad, but my brother uses the Euro Barrie-Aire in his Volvo.

Yep, I use the "sun shade" that's built in to the rear cargo cover. Works well as a dog barrier actually.

i picked up a folding fabric crate from walmart. between that and the audi-brand rubber cargo mat, almost no pet hair gets left after i remove the crate. plus, you can strap it in with the cargo strap on the passenger side of the cargo area.

    Re: pet barrier?

VW makes an OEM one for the Passat wagon that is unbelievably sturdy and effective. My ex-gf has one that we picked up used for $200 (!), expensive, but it was worth every penny.

It basically wedges between the backside of the B pillar and the edge of the trim by the rear window, you can see what I mean in the pic. Then there is a metal hook (made from a thin plate of metal and welded to a screw that hooks onto the seatback post and tightens downward to secure it in place.

It sounds complicated, but its is absurdly effective. You can put the rear seats down and it stays in place, you can pull on it with your fingers with a LOT of force and it wont budge. Her one dog is very persistent at trying to get into the front seat, and this was the only thing that worked. We tried to use the cloth barrier in my A4 and the dog just squeezed around it lol. I was rather pissed at the time but in retrospect its really funny how badly she wants to be close to you when riding in the car.

It worked wonders to keep mud off the car. The back is a disaster, of course, but at least the seats dont have muddy pawprints all over them.

I am not sure if Audi makes something similar, but you could always build one if you have access to a welder and pipe bender. I was thinking about making one for my car this winter once my brother buys a tig next month.

tried that once, the dog almost started clawing through it... i immediately pulled over and lowered it and then tied the dog down to the cargo latches in the hatch.

YIKES! Damn dogs! I'd be tying them to the back bumper if they acted up like that. Kidding - but seems like you'd definitely need something sturdy.

I've never experienced any issues with my dogs yet - fortunately.

    Re: pet barrier?

i was wondering about using the sunshade and if my dog would try to go through it... she is used to jumping into the back seat of the Outback so I am afraid she might try it with the Avant . She did crew through a middle seatbelt one time- i mentioned that to a subie salesperson and they laughed and said it was pretty common. Luckily the seatbelts don't come down from the ceiling on the audis.

as for the Euro Barrie-Aire, I was hoping to avoid making marks on the ceiling. I thought i saw in a photo something that looked like it connected to the rear seat (the harness constraints or whatever they are called). Might have to rig something up myself. I'll post photos if i do.

    thanks, as always

My neighbor has three Aussies. They are really smart dogs, they just have to understand it is a crate and they will be just fine.

    Plenty of other options:
-SUV Pet Net Pet Barrier - Similar to built-in allroad barrier.

    -Pet Barrier

    -The Backseat Barrier
