depending on how much it costs to get the cv boot replaced vs the cost of replacing the whole axle, how much would a shop charge me to fix this? Thanks.

    Re: cv boot replacement

I just posted in that thread and I think I have the same problem. I am going to take my car into the shop this week and get an idea if that's what it is and how much. If it is Ill let you know.

Is this a hard repair to DIY?

Sweet, please let me know. I won't be able to take my car in untill Monday morning next week

concerning my cv boot leaking, everyone is saying that it will be cheaper to replace the boot, but it is way harder to diy than changing the whole axle. I wish Charlie was still in socal

    Re: cv boot replacement

My dads car (D2) tore a CV boot. I will be doing this over Thanksgiving break for him.
You can get the CV boot from ECS Tuning (with grease and clamps) for ~$15. That's the easy part. If your bearing is bad though, that's about ~$120 in parts to replace the cv boot and bearing.

    Here's a DIY:
    http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel37.shtml

You will know if your bearing is bad if it starts clunking a lot while turning or going over bumps. If there is no serious noise, you will be fine with just replacing the boot.

    Re: cv boot replacement

An axle should run you around $140 plus labor (that's what it cost me anyway). If you want to save money, you could pick up a cv boot kit (boot, clamp, grease, hub bolt) for $25 bucks or so and do the labor yourself. Changing the boot isn't that hard, it's just time consuming/messy.
