    HID igniter woes (aftermarket)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so i purchased this "OEM" HID kit from akinaboy. it uses OEM ballasts and pigtails with a aftermarket ignitor and some kind of deal to make the HID bulb fit.

anyhow my problem is this. on one side, the igniter locks down (passenger side) and it secure. on the drivers side, it locks up and as im lowered it gets jarred around quite a bit on our memphis roads. It now blinks out constantly.

i went to audi today and the OEM igniter is built together with the bulb and wont work on my non HID housings. I need a igniter basically that is small enough to twist and lock in place securely. Anyhow had problems like this?

i included a picture and i am horribly embarrassed to show it as i have jury rigged the the headlight more and more trying to prolong its life so please dont laugh..... too hard anyway. the purpose of the ball is to keep the igniter from unlocking itself but... it isnt working.

and BTW, the C stands for close or lock and O for open.. its what the igniter has on it

friend had a similar problem with his setup , all i remember is he packed the enclosure with tin foil. not joking... it held it in place really well and did a good job absorbing some of the vibrations/shock from harsh road conditions.

look at the D2S connector--- the grooves may be worn out or damaged which prevents it from being secured properly.

Get yourself a new ballast (Hella gen 3 type with integrated ignitor). I bought cheap ebay ones before to replace the AL-ballast & separate ignitor with good results.

it depends on how much you want to spend.

You can get a DDM kit instead if you want.

Wait I"m not understanding the problem.

The bulb is bouncing around in there because you can't secure it on your H7 housing?
And, one of the connectors are worn?

Why don't you send the worn one back to AkinaBoy? He should warranty his product.

Ax far as securing it, I'm not seeing how you're securing the bulb in there. Are you using the factory wire pin?

ive done a terrrible job at explaining this i know lemme try again.

the igniter clips onto the bulb or rather you put it on the bulb and twist it to lock it on. the problem is that on the drivers side, you have to twist it UP to lock it in place (since there isnt enough room to lock it on either down or on the other side) so when i hit all these potholes it jars it loose causing the bulb to blink out. it has done that so much now the plastic where the connecter locks onto is worn so it blinks out a lot now.

i need a smaller igniter that would give me enough room to clip it on and lock it either down or on the right side

the bulb itself is secured by slightly modifying the OEM metal clip. my plastic golf ball is to keep the igniter from boucing down and disengaging

    Re: HID igniter woes (aftermarket)

Would it be something with the D2S to H7 adapter he includes in the kit? Just a suggestion, try putting the passenger side adapter over to the driver side ignitor and see if it fits on snug.
