hey all i was wondering if it was possible to gut the cats like piggie pipes, and use a vast cel eliminator to get rid of the check engine light. If anyone has done this or knows any information that could help it would be much appreciated.

This is what I have on my car. Vast did it for 450$ for the money you can't go wrong.

You might get a CEL for no cats every blue moon. But for the most part the ELE's work great. No issue for quite sometime now. With just the standard Vast Dp's there was no CEL or issue

I don't know what FTL Stands for but im sure its not good LOL.

Removing the cats is not something you need to do. Will it add more power yes. But you can't just remove the cats and expect the car to give you more power. At the point you remove the cats you need to look into the exhaust adjustment for get the power out of this. If you remove the cats and don't install a X pipe you are kinda shooting your self in the foot.

Some people don't like removing the cats and they have there own feelings about it. So there is not going to be a good argument there. The cat thing can be an emotional debate with both sides having there own thought and points.

In the end removing the cats will allow you to get more from the car if you do the rest of the exhaust to work with it. But in the end is removing the cats worth it. That is for the end user to decide

    Re: custom dp's?

The problem is trying to find a place to do it. California is very strict on this and no one wants to touch the cats on my car. Is this something the DIY'r can achieve?

The best part about the Piggie or VAST Dp's is. If you remove the pre cat and not the main cat. There is no way any one will ever know what you have done.

As for the DIY. All I can do is say for me NO. I actually started to do mine. Then about 45 min into the still first Dp I said the hell with this and sent them out.

Not only are the cats hard as hell to remove. But doing so you create some toxic airborne debre. I have seen all these B5 guys claim that is was so easy but come to find out most of them that say that never did it themselves. Even after you remove the cat you still need to relocate the 02's as to not get a CEL so in the end. For the 450$ you pay. You are much better off having someone that has done it hundreds of times do it for you.

The vast guys tested the cats and did all the work. The best 450$ you can spend. Now if you go full cat less its going to cost more

I used to cut trees for a living...but all of our equipment had cats. IMO anything I can do to keep the snow dumping in the mountains = win in my book. While driving an S4 isnt the best way, I still help a bit by keeping my cats in. The gains are minimal and your car will smell like you shit your pants.

I'm not saying running catless is right or wrong. I've ran catless on many cars. It doesn't smell like you shit your pants. In fact you can't even smell it or tell the difference unless your tune is pig rich.

Now runnng an external wastegate on a turbo car. Sometimes that can be smelly, but mine wasn't bad at all on a former car....

I've de-catted a high flow metal substrate cat on an aftermarket exhaust. Its a real PITA. took 3 hours of tearing out chunks of metal with various tools (crobar, screw driver, hook, etc...). It seems like an OEM ceramic cat would easier, but really it all boils down to how close the cat is located to one of the ends of the pipe. If it's way in there, you're better off cutting the dang thing next to the cat, doing the demolition, and welding it back on. No matter how you slice it, this is a PITA....
