If you've ever experienced the pissed-offness of buying non-OEM replacement wiper blades only to find out that they simply don't fit our cars, here's a little tip (for the non-Aero crowd).

The Trico 47-600 refills sold at Advanced Auto work PERFECTLY. No need to resize. Just slide out the two thin metal strips and the rubber on the OEM blade, and then slide the new refills back in.

    7 bucks. Done.

    Re: Wiper Refills

I have a B6 and just bought the 47-700s. If I dont return them, what will I need to do to install them. Do i need to cut them??? Should I just go return them and get the 600s and if so, how do you install them. Do you need to undo the clips at the top of the wiper blade??

    Re: Wiper Refills

Good call ... but after two to three insert replacements the wiper body loses its spring and doesn't put enough pressure to work effectively. Its still more cost effective than getting oem wipers every time tho

I wish I known about then this before I went out and got some random blades and ending up returning them b/c they didn't fit. Also does anyone know a link for the DIY for the replacement. I can't them off my wiper arm.

i have used these before and now i have those awesome wiper scratch marks all over the windshield. So i took that refill pair off and replaced them but it did not matter it was too late. Anyone know how to repair the scratches ?

You must not have installed them correctly.

:-) i hope i have enough mechanical skill to install them. I did change my timing belt and water pump. I am not sure how they can be installed wrong.

you know how to remove the scratch marks that the blades have left behind ? glass polishing kit or restoration ?

Thanks for the tip. I just did this. Seem to work fine, we'll see tomorrow how they hold up in a snowstorm. It took me a minute to figure out how to get the old blade off. They slide in through the clips but the one in back is clamped down to keep the entire thing on. You have to pry that open to slide the blade out and then clamp it back down with pliers or something to hold the new one in place. I don't think I saw that info in this thread, and it may not be so intuitive to some (like me). Probably will go aero though after this.

Harbor Freight had a glass polish kit in a box with foam pads you used with your drill and with what I am guessing is diamond powder on the pads. It worked well on a windshield I did. Years ago I used some flouro acid something or other but be very careful and not get that on your skin, I know very little but it is bad to soak through your skin.

So the goodyear wipers that costco sells won't fit on these cars? Bummer, I love those.

Used this again! The rest of the wiper is for sure getting weak (this is the 4th time I replaced just the blade), so I think the aero upgrade is in the near future.

I finally switched to the Aero style last year. It took a couple of months for them to stop skipping across the windshield. It drove me NUTS. There were suggestions to claybar the windshield, swap the driver and passenger side arms, etc., but it just took time for the skipping to go away. They were almost unusable at first.
