About to buy an A4 B6 as my second Audi

Hey guys.
I am about to buy another Audi, its an 02 A4 B6 1.8t FWD 6-speed tip tranny.
the car runs great! 112K miles on her. the engine and the turbo pulls great.
the car looks and performs perfect.

my only question is the transmission...
when i come to a stop she feels like shes hesitating a little. i can go to pull off and the car feels like shes in neutral and if i go too fast into the accelerator she will clunk into gear and maybe stall.
if i go into and come out of the brake slow, and then go into the accelerator slow, givng the transmission time to go into 1st, she runs fine.

But my main worry is the tranny, why it hesitates pulling off from the lights.
when the car is in 'tip', there no problems at all, she dosnt hesitate or anything. It only does it while in 'drive'.

I have a 96 A4 FWD 2.8L standard auto tranny, so im not used to this CVT tranny stuff and how it works.

Any info on why it feels like a clutch when pulling off would help me bigtime!

*EDIT* I also ran the VAG-COM on the car, the only code that comes up is in the tranny,

I'm not a transmission guy myself but when an automatic tranny slips thats not good at all.

A CVT is expensive to fix and is a fairly weak transmisson... I would check the records and/or find out more about it... you don't want to be stuck replacing that soon after picking up the car.

Yea. I have had to replace my transmission in my A4 B5 because of a seal perishing that leaked tranny oil into the diff and then the diff oil leaking out of the diff flange.
Took me 3 weekends to replace that transmission, not easy to replace. I got my last tranny for $750 used.

I've been talking to some poeple in the local chapter and some have said that the 02 B6's shift into neutral when the car sits for so long to save fuel....? and that the B6's 'learn' the drivers habbits or somthing?

you can buy my 2002 Avant. its white and has a 5 speed manual. VERY rare car and the only one for sale in the whole us that is a White B6 Avant manual.

god damn! your giving me second thoughts on all this now! insurance only gave me $4k from wrecking my b5 (was forced off the road by an on coming car) to work with unfortantly, just cant afford to pay that much money out right now. i would love to own an arctic white a4 b6 1.8tqm usp, avant or sedan!! maybe in a few years time =)

theres not much local near me (kansas city). most of the quattros here are all N/A engines and grey interior which i dont want.
its a shame that this car im looking at isnt a Q.
i need one under $7k and local since i need it asap. ive been driving this car for the last 2 days, the only flaw is that slight hesitation on the gearbox.

BTW, what is the max HP that you all recomend on these CVT transmissions before i start causing problems for myself?

All i would do is a chip and exhaust for now. Then maybe play with the intake, intercooler and ko4 later on.

From what I read around these forums, a CVT is damn near impossible to mod.

I'm not 100% sure however.
