LOW on OIL

ok so i am low on oil and i the dealership's service department is closed today. I found SAE 10w-30 in my garage, would that be fine to use?

I use 5w30 royal purple in mine.

its pretty low, i checked the dipstick and its like half of the MIN, i just want to make sure if i pu the SAE 10w-30 it wont mess something up

Don't use non Synthetic with Synth , and don't mix different grades.What brand are you using? and you do know you can buy oil at Auto parts stores , Walmart , ect...

SAE 10w-30 what????? What brand?, Is it Synth, Is it Audi aproved,Is the oil in your car 10w-30?

If it's Chevron it's not Synth . When you buy if you can't find your brand just make sure you get Full Synth and not blended.

5w40 or 0w40 its what i would used

castrol syntec 5w40 is what my shop (and i believe most other dealerships) uses. if this is a 2.0t, the oil consumption thing is normal. you will have to add about 1 qt between each service, but it gets less and less fairly quickly, until you wont have to add any by 25k-35k. the piston rings (especially on 07 models) dont fully seat, especially with non-enthusiastic driving habits. if you snail around town or have very short trips, you will notice this being more of a problem. another possible cause is the crankcase pressure regulation valve. there is a bulletin out for this. they will replace the valve and the vacuum supply hose at no charge if you bring it in. a faulty valve will cause boost pressure to enter the crankcase and blow oil out of the oil filler cap.

Im sure your dads shop has a couple hundred quarts of oil laying around. To keep that 1000hp engine running, you need plenty of oil.

have you heard of something called the owners manual???










seems to answer alot of the questions i have.








like what kind of oil to use.







buuut if you dont have the time to follow the maintenance that the manual outlines, and have to ask questions than can be easily answered, you dont need oil.. car will run fine without adding it.. definitely throw that non-synthetic in if you know what your doing </sarcasm>









really just go to the store and get yourself a few quarts of 0-w40 mobile 1 full synthetic or the castrol syntec full synthetic. if its not below the min line, its fine to run, especially just to get oil.

I was always under the impression they told you EXACTLY what oil to use in the owners manual. When it happened to me, i just swung by the dealer and they topped me off for free. I dont believe they are like BMW. In my M3 they only recommended a certain exact type of oil that I could only buy from the BMW parts department. I know its the same in a Porsche 997 Turbo too.
