Question my RSN-E won't play long (4 hour) mp3 files from SD card

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
once again i'm having trouble getting my RSNE mp3 player to play certain files i've burned to it. Here is the problem:

I have some 4 hour audio files (stern from sirius sat rad on my hardrive at home) that i burn onto my 2 GB SD card. In the past, they've all worked. Now, despite making sure the filename is shortened, they won't play. I see them show up on the NavScreen thing inside my car, but they only show the filename for a split second, then it jumps to the next file, and then jumps to a song that is on the SD card that it will play.

So it is burnt onto the card, that is for sure.

The car radio can see the card and the file, but then skips right past it.

I did change the filename to a shorter filename, so that isn't the issue

Any advice on why this won't work?

I've tried it with 2 different 2 GB SD cards and had the same problem.

These are mp3 files that i've burnt, long 4 hour mp3 files, and they've worked in the past.

Sometimes it reads and plays them, sometimes it doesn't.

    Can't figure out why?

thanks in advance for trying to help.

    Bob

ps. I had this in 'telematics' forum, but it sat replyless for weeks, so I crossposted, so please don't burn me for it. Mods, if i have sinned, i'll understand if you delete

Holy Cow! I just created a thread similar to this one just 2 seconds ago... except mine seems to randomly skip over MP3s that are only3-4 minutes long.

sounds like we both have the same problem.

can i 'rename' it to something different if it is an id3 tag version?

    [quote=pairadocs;3091309]what's an id3 tag?/quote]
The ID3 tag is the part of the MP3 file where track name and details are stored. The RNS-E cannot read all versions, so a program that creates an MP3 file with an ID3 V2.x or V3.x tag will not be suitable for creating MP3s to use with the RNS-E.

Some MP3 tag editors can be used to downgrade the ID3 tag to an ID3 v1.x version - which the RNS-E can read.

Makes sense! I'll try modifying the ID3 tags later this evening! Thanks...

any luck modifying? what program did you use?

i downloaded a couple of freeware programs but i couldn't figure out how to change things on the files - i couldn't find a simple "change id3 tag to" icon...

Easiest way is to delete the ID3 tag completely, and re-create a new V1.x one.

thanks, all of you, for the suggestions on my thread about my rsne not playing my long files from the sd card.

i'm convinced it has something to do with the id3 tag.

i did what you said, channad, and used itunes, but i still can't make it work...i suck.

itunes gives you teh option of selecting v1.0, v1.1, and so on.

i tried saving the files to the sd card using v1.0 and i tried with v1.1, but still no luck.

any suggestions? which one do you pick?

i even tried using winamp, but still can't make it work.

i've made it work in the past, but lately, with either sdcard and either port, i can't make these long files play (old episodes of stern show from sirius, on my hard drive, trying to burn to sdcard)

the rsne shows the filename, but then quickly bounces past/over it to teh next filename, which it doesn't like.

thanks in advance for your help everyone. i've got a long drive coming up and i'd love to figure this out.
