Do you need to have a HSC(handgun safety certificate) to buy a handgun in cali? Thought I had read that somewhere.
Or just the normal background check and wait time?

You have to be 21 for a handgun. More importantly though, join the NRA and support the 2nd Amendment or you won't be able to buy anything no matter how old you are. (Damn Obama and his pro gun-control cronies will try to make it really difficult for any legal law abiding citizen to purchase firearms soon). http://www.nra.org/

The Cert is issued after you pass a written test which is given at the local gun store. They offer a study guide for it too which is useful but overall the test is really easy to pass.

Re: socal gun owners chime in

OCMI, you are correct and I agree that Cali has some of the most lame gun laws around, but here's a list of exactly what he wants to do to "change" the 2nd Amendment which only makes things worse for us here.

    1. Ban use of firearms for home self defense.
    2. Pass Federal Laws eliminating your right to carry.
    3. Ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
    4. Close down 90% of gun stores in America.
    5. Ban rifle ammo commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.
    6. Increase Federal taxes on guns and ammo up to 500%.
7.Restore voting rights for 5 million criminals including those who have been convicted of using a gun to commit a violent crime.
    8. Expand the Clinton semi-auto ban to include millions more firearms.
    9. Mandate a govt -issued license to purchase a firearm.
    10. Appoint judges to the U.S. Supreme Court and Federal Judiciary who share his views on the 2nd Amendment.

Item #2 doesn't really matter for us here in California anyway since it's already near impossible for someone to get a CCW permit. But it helps make your point that Obama is leaning towards laws already in effect in states like ours.

I also hate Diane Feinstein and anyone with views like hers on guns.

I spend alot of time on cal-guns.net(awesome place to learn about the gun laws in the state).

my shotgun meets the minimum length requirements. (18" barrel, 26" overall length)

The AR does not accept detachable mags, but uses a Mag-lock kit. So it can have all the "evil" features my little heart desires. You cannot have magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

No need to take a class really. Just go to the range with a friend that has one and have them show you everything. Its basically all common sense aside from the mechanical workings of the gun. I've never taken a class, and the test for safety they make you take is beyond easy.

I think you can have all the good stuff as long as it was purchased pre-ban. But it's illegal to purchase or sell it now (post-ban).

Of course theres nothing wrong with it... I'm just saying if you know someone who goes to the range, its not rocket science to learn the basics of loading a magazine, using the safeties, telling if its loaded or not, unloading, etc. It doesnt take a class to know its a bad idea to point guns at people. To each his own, I suppose... I just meant that its not a bad thing to have a knowledgeable friend teach you the basics.

Definitely need hands on training from people who actually know how to operate a firearm safely at all times. Many people who don't know what they are talking about teach other people bad habits and give them wrong information.

I just searched for this. Not sure how credible this is , but........http://gunsafe.org/position%20statem...nd%20crime.htm

I know what your trying to say. I have a friend who was an armored car driver for many years and is well trained with handguns. He is taking me shooting soon. I grew up around guns with my family being big hunters on the east coast. I have guns just not handguns. Thanks for the info guys!
