Anybody care to comment on the differences? Are the Stoptech's worth the money? Any noticeable difference on the street?

Re: Stoptech 4 piston 355mm vs. stock 345mm

With the Stoptech setup you get a better caliper design, fixed vs. sliding, and 2 more pistons to help disperse the pressure onto the brake pads.

Will you 'feel' a difference on the street. That is objective as usually the upgraded brake pads bite better than the stock pads you have right now.

I'd suggest upgrading your pads, fluid and lines before getting a BBK as you are in BBK size territory and those upgrade will be quite noticeable and cheaper.

What pads/lines/fluid do you recommend? I'd like to retain the thickness sensor. Also, i heard that the SS lines dont do much in terms of stopping power or feel. Ed, please feel free to jump in.

Pads? For street Hawk HPS or HP+ I found to be good with low dust. If you want something more aggressive try a Ferodo DS2500. Once again... the pad choice is very subjective as it needs to match your driving style and braking habits.

    Fluid? Motul 5.1 or RBF600

Lines? You can do this last if you find the pedal feel too mushy. Goodridge or the Stoptech lines are good options.

I'm with Winston do your fluid first. The modern S4's have great brakes. I just did a weekend at Texas World Speedway with many 135mph to 50mph stops and I had NO fade!!

I did a BBK on my other car as I put Porsche 996tt brakes on my urS6 but those cars came with little lousy brakes, and it is a pita to do BBK's.

    Upgrade the fluid and pads!!

How much better are the Hawk HP Plus compared to the Hawk HPS? How about the Hawk ceramics?

Also, where do you guys buy your SS lines and fluid? ECS sells the Hawks at what looks to be a good price.

I have braked pretty heavily during some spirited driving and it definetely felt like the stock brakes could be improved...

I think a lighter weight 2 piece cross drilled rotor set, and new pads would do the trick... and finish it off with new stainless brake lines... Ive always liked the quality of Goodridge... who carries them for the B7 S4?

Ceramics would bite the least and last the longest. HPS is good for the street and the Hp+ is about the same but gets better as they get hot.

You can get the good from most of the AZ advertisers here.

More aggressive pads and upgrade the brake fluid would hep your situation.

Crossdrilled rotors will actually make it worse as you are losing metal which you need to absorb heat from braking.

From what I've heard, the Stoptechs aren't really any better than the stock setup. You're adding a few pistons to the menu (and 1mm), but apparently the feel isn't any better. I agree with the rest of the guys on upgrading your fluid to Motul and the pads to Hawk. If you're gonna do a BBK, I'd honestly say save your money and go with the STaSIS Alcons

JHM has just released a new two-piece lightweight rotor. Look into that.

i have their short shifter and i think it is a very high quality product.
Here is the thread they started here. They can also do slotting and or cross drilling to give your brakes an BBK look.
