What is needed to run a larger throttle body ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
1st and foremost I searched an was unable to come up with definitve answers

    - So basically I want to know what it would take to bolt up a larger throttle body. Yes I am aware of Issams new Intake, but I dont want to go that route just yet.

    This is what I found
    - You will need some sort of adapter plate
    - Yet I've also read that you can simply bolt up certain TB's

    The options
    - VR6
    -S4
    -RS4
    -I.T.B'S ?

Pretty much it is an adapter plate and that's it.

To take full advantage of the bigger TB you will need a bigger plenum intake manifold and adjust the SW to take advantage of the extra air.

Okay I read that Issam sells an adapter plate, but I wan unable to locate the plate on the 034 website.

I purchased a spare AEB IM and I plan to let my local turbo guy do the whole plenum thing.

Hit Issam up directly for the plate.

I have one ordered for the 80mm VDO TB I bought of him earlier this year.

Re: What is needed to run a larger throttle body ?

Sorry I can help you there. My best educated guess is that they simply cut off the existing plenum and make a new larger internally smoothed plenum

It's still sitting in the box waiting for it's moment to come out.

Re: What is needed to run a larger throttle body ?

For starters, a turbo big enough to take advantage of it. No one has maxed out the TB on a B6 and a 3071/76 isn't going to do it. If you need to upgrade to a bigger TB, you'll need a bigger IC and piping also. Having all 2.5" pipes and a 3" TB is dumb.

^damn you beat me to it, i was about to say "ask john about that "

that thing looks good man, can't wait to see how the car performs now.
and chris - while a 3071/76 may not be maxing out the TB/IM, you know that you're still going to see gains with larger/improved designs on both parts.

and yes, 2.5" piping to a 3.25" TB is dumb. that's why my entire cold side is 3"

wow that IM does look nice.

B6Lovin - is the outlet of your FMIC cold side 3" or did you just change it to 3" piping ?

3" IC pipe is not needed till your making 1000chp. You there yet?

I dont even run a 3" IC pipe, because it reduces velocity and that increases lag. So going too large doesn't actual get more air to the IM.
