Project complete: Chromed front grille (PICS)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Considering either chroming the vertical slats of the S Line grille or swapping to an S4 one and doing the same thing. What do you think?

UPDATE 30 Nov. Got 6mm wide chrome strips from the car accessory shop, cut them to size and pasted them onto the existing grille with the supplied tape. Workmanship looks good if I may say, fairly OEM. Here are some pics:

** Click on the yellow bar above each pic, the auto resize function distorts the photos. Expanded you can tell how OEM it looks. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. USD15.00 and 90 mins of work... not bad!**

    Before:

    Halfway through:

    After:

    OEM S8:

And this is what I used:

It's 6mm wide, chrome foil wrapped over a rubber backing.

C'mon guys you're all not being fair! His idea isn't really bling it's just a few strips of chrome on the grill and the S8 already comes like that. OP I think either one would look good but go for the SLine since you already have it on.

Re: What do you think? Chromed grille options

First of all, you've done a great job with your car so far so I'm sure whatever you choose will be in good taste.

Secondly, I think the chrome/alu (?) accents on the S8 grille look great, which I'm sure that's where you got the idea from. I think doing this will look particularly good on your car because it will go well with the alu mirror caps, alu trim and polished alu wheels.

    Go for it.

How do you chrome the grill like that? Custom work at a shop or buy it somewhere?

I did mine a while ago - I think it makes it stand out a little.

I only used 3mm chrome trim, so it's quite subtle:

Your car looks great! Can I know what sort of chrome strips you used? Especially how thick they are. And where you got them.

The other way would be to have them spray painted with a chrome-effect paint, a paint shop told me he can get almost the same effect as the S4 aluminium wing mirrors. But this isn't reversible like the tape.

Thanks dude. I reckon go for the sline first. But the S4 grille is a tad more aggressive.

i retract my last comment...have to say looks pretty good.

he's right, maybe if you grabbed some S4 brushed aluminum housings it would really accent your ride nicely.

I like the way Richardesty did his, plus his LED's. It has a subtle OEM look to it. The S6 and S8 have it so it's not like there is no precedence at all for it. I say go for it.

Re: What do you think? Chromed grille options

at first i didnt think it would be a good idea, but its something that would set you apart, and we've already got chrome around the windows (non-ti cars).

i do think audi offered this for the b6.

bmw does this from the factory on the new 3-series as well.
