    Review of Blizzak LM25's

So finnaly got around to having my new bridgeston blizzak LM25 mounted on some 17" S4 avus rims. Did 80 miles today, about a 60/40 highway to city split.

First thing I noticed was that the car seems to be working harder to get up to speed.

Second thing was that according to the computer my MPG dropped by about 2-3 mpg.

I know these are strictly winter tires and I have them just because I go to the mountains a lot and I have a little cottage in maine that is always burried in snow, so that is where I'm expecting these to shine.

In retrospect, because I commute 60+ miles a day, maybe I should have gone with something not as extreme?

    Re: Review of Blizzak LM25's

If I recall correctly, the LM25s are a longer lasting winter tire. Therefore the compound would not be as soft as the other Blizzak models.

I have over 20k on my LM25s and they are hardly worn. The only difference I notice on the road is more body roll since my 17inch LM25s have more sidewall than my 18inch summer wheels.

Have you noticed anything as far as acceleration goes?

    Re: Review of Blizzak LM25's

If the rolling diameter of the LM25's are greater than the wheel you usually use, then that will TECHNICALLY contribute to the slower acceleration speed. Even so, it might just be your mind

    Nope.

The outside diameter of my 17inch tires and my 18inch tires is exactly the same.

    Re: Review of Blizzak LM25's

The compound is softer so you'll notice a drop from strict summer tyres.

The LM-25s are a good bet but I've personally found the Dunlop WS 3Ds to be better. Again, that's just a personal choice. In my opinion, you're not giving up much.

You'll notice the better grip as temps plunge and especially in the deep snow and slush. It should outweigh the softer sidewall feel and earlier give tendency of winters on dry vs. summers on ice.

    Good choice and good luck!

    Re: Review of Blizzak LM25's

you are fine commuting on the LM25's. I just put my snow setup on and i also notice the same things as you. For my setup it is due to the increased weight over my summer setup. My winter wheels (18") + runflat tires are about 11#'s more per corner than my summer setup. Also the softer compound of the winter tires doesn't help either. Oh well. I am more than willing to sacrifice a couple mpg's and handling for a few months to have the better control when stopping or accellerating in the winter snowy conditions. Better safe than sorry.
