    Best ECU upgrade!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I was wondering what everyone thinks is the best chip/reflash for our cars. Did some searching, but would like to see everyone's opinion.

    Price?

    Thanks all.

    Re: Best ECU upgrade!!

all i have is to compare to my previous B6 which was wonder baby of production, one of the first testing models i guess - 2002. now i got another 2002 B6 with giac chiped before me, and its not as responsive as my previous, it has power and torque but very limited throught the rpms. Spools turbo around 2800 and drops the power around 5500-6000. Plus its really smooth, maybe its my stage 1 clutch going out. Dont take my opinion as a base for rejection for the program. More than likely i need to fix my mechanical parts first

Nah, wouldn't do that. Just curious to hear all the info possible. The more I learn, the easier it'll be for me to prevent or troubleshoot issues further down the road. Thanks man.

    Re: Best ECU upgrade!!

If you are going under stage 2, then any of the big 3 (Giac, APR, Revo) are all pretty much the same in performance and price. Go with the tuner that is closest to you so that if something goes wrong, you are close to the mechanic.

The differences show up with you get in to a K04 upgrade, and the differences are immense when you go BT.

    Re: Best ECU upgrade!!

I haven't actually chipped yet, but I agree with Kurt. For a basic stage 1, the best thing is to find an installer that is local, who can do the work and provide service if there are issues. My local independent happens to do APR, and they can do a timed sample for a few hours so you can try it out. Haven't yet, because I know I would want to keep it and have some other bills right now, but will do so when I am ready. These are the things to think about as much or more than one stage 1 over the other. If you are going big turbo with lots of custom work, that is a whole different bunch of bananas.

I went with GIAC 1+ and I still get walked by everything that walked me before. Chipped MK4 1.8t's, nearly stock a4 2.0t's, MK3 vr6's the list goes on and on. You need more than the K03 if you want our cars to be fast.

its not GIAC's fault that your car loses power around 5500... your little k03 is out of breath at that point.

both unitronic stage 2 and revo sage 1+ require injectors... so which one makes more power..? lets say i have all supporting mods, turbo back, intercooler, intake, tip, bla bla... which would make me fore power unitronic stage 2 or revo 1+?..

Like I said in my previous post...

Unless you are going BT, the difference in tunes is marginal!

Pick the tuner that is closest to you in case something goes wrong.

Highway runs take the driver out of the equation assuming everybody can make a 3rd to 4th gear change in a timely manner. From a dig, my 1+ would put a smile on my face. A smile that was soon wiped off when the other car started inching past. A highway run was an instant loss. You can't brake boost these cars, so all you can do is honk and mash the gas. Sure supporting mods would help, but I like the quiet stock exhaust and don't see a need for a front mount with a k03.
