center cluster display with RNS-E

I successfully installed my RNS-E but I am not getting the directions on the center display above the steering wheel. Is there something else I need to do for that?

You need find use a Vag-com to recode a few things.

After my install and Vag setting I noticed the same thing. The way around it was to turn off your NAV and then turn it back on and then it will appear on the cluster.

there's a $20 ebay cable and free software that might help. It covers some basic stuff (headlight settings, removal of bing-bing-bing for seatbelt, activation of automatic windows/sunroof close/open via your remote key) but may not be able to adjust your navigation system settings.

otherwise I think the full on setup is only $190 from RossTech....the $400 package is a bunch of bullshit you don't need.

I got it off of ebay, it came from Poland. I think its great. My wife has the myGig system in her Jeep and the RNS-E is much better. The interface on the myGig is awful.

Im not sure what cable and software is the one I need. So I guess I can search for it. Would be sweet to find someone near me that has it. (and knows what they are doing)

The way around it was to turn off your NAV and then turn it back on and then it will appear on the cluster.

This is because you have the red DIS - which has a bug that Audi won't fix since they didn't sell A4s with the red DIS and the sat nav.

But you still have to have the correct value in adaptation channel 62 of the instruments.

final straw which I thought was awesome...your car connects to email. You can googlemaps directions on your computer at home, email to your car, and have the trip in there when you get to the vehicle

Ok, so i add "4" to what ever the value is already? So if it was "5" in there I would change it to "9", test, and save?

Plenty of people have vag-coms, I'd advise you post in the regionals. Somebody from Danbury just let me use theirs but I imagine thats sort of far away.

Hmm im also having this problem with the RNS-E install for a buddy. I open adaptation 10 and channel 62 as listed above. I had a value of 17 in the channel and added 4 for Navigation... Tested and Saved... However still couldnt get the NAV in the cluster...

I tried to take the value of 16 out for the cluster and just put a value of 5 in the channel but still could not get the NAV to work in the cluster...

Anyone have any insight?

The value without navigation is usually 17, so adding 4 makes 21!

+1 = show radio information
+2 = show phone information
+4 = show sat nav information
+8 = show telematics information
+16 = needed by new clusters

The other issue is that many people have found they need to eneter the correct value and wait 24 hours - something to do with sequence numbers of CAN bus messages IIRC.

The other thing to remember if that if you have a red DIS (not a colo(u)r one) on a B6/B7 A4 there is a SW bug in the DIS that means to see nav instructions you have to:

1) enter a destination
2) turn on route guidance
3) turn the RNS-E off
4) turn the RNS-E back on, now the instructions will appear in the DIS.

Note: this workaround ONLY applies to a B6/B7 A4 with red DIS.

So according to PetrolDave, this should have worked. Do you have the color or the red DIS? Did you wait 24 hrs to test again, per PetrolDave?

Yes- Dave was correct. It took about 24 hours for the NAV information to show up in the cluster.

If the station is appearing on the cluster than i would image the +1 digit is already in the coding. Perhaps its only a certain station your listening to that wont put the song text on the screen?

When you go to code with the VAG give me a call. I will walk you through it. Its much easier to answer these questions if i have the value that is already stored in that adaptation.

Thanks to AEB A4 and Joey I now have the DIS working with the RNS-E! Very cool. Mine didnt take 24 hours to start working after the VAGcom. After a restart 20 mins later it was there.
