G.420 ENGINEERING presents the GT FMIC - Custom Garrett/Honeywell Front Mount Intercooler.

figured since i was going w a custom GT setup, id go w a custom GT FMIC. Had to keep it real and go FULL GT, LOL!!! anyhow, this took me a great many hours as i am very picky, and kept wanting to improve upon wtvr revision i had already made. in the end, i made those revisions and it couldnt have been turned out any better- perfection. im very excited to see if this will work on my car as well as it did on my friend's car. his IAT delta was NEGATIVE on an 80degree day!!!

I love it! plenty of space, no stretching/stress anywhere on the bumper. tons of extra room, and my fenders line up perfectly!

SOME SHOTS OF THE FITTING/FABBING PROCESS





so, basically... i used an assortment of regular aluminum piping bent in various which ways, and chopped them down for the elbows to use as joints. i used a combination of bends and tried to make each side congruent to the other. i did this using a cut offwheel, and a grinder to grind off the edges. the wheel is GREAT, but its not band-saw clean. so the process is a lil longer than it should be, but this was much cheaper than buying even a shit bandsaw. here's Young Thomas aka TOMMYGUNN lending me a hand grinding the joints down so we could mock. another downside to the cut off wheel is that is grinds instead of cuts, so lots of metal shavings everywhere. i was shitting this stuff literally for a wk. scratching myslef like a crackhead n stuff, lol. anyhow, you gotta wash n scrub it all out- i did that as im retentive and didnt want any metal shavings/particles around my freshly built motor. it sticks to wtvr they coat the inside of the pipes with? anyone know wha i mean? ita a bit greasy.

Very clean install, see we these FMIC have evolved into. But i think i'm still going with sidemounts.

another thing. i cant wait to get rid of the RS4 up pipes which are a pair of smashed 2.5" piping. something you def dont want right before the throttle bottle, a stupid restriction. this was done on the RS4 bc of fitment. with all the larger artillary, ie TB, TBB, and charge pipes and all the aux crap ie fans, pulleys, you cant have a round pipe.

not too mention, even if you have the real estate (which i luckily do), its pretty tight. 2.5" looks huge when you have it goin all the way to the throttle. anyhow, these pipes are pretty easy to mock, but hasnt been done yet bc i was gonna get all fancy n have flanges machined, then make the straight pipes, which i already mocked and cut. otherwise i would have to weld them directly to the RS4 cast y-pipe aka bi-pipe/tbb and i dont want to do that, but may eventually end up doing that.

i dont have pics of the final fit, but i have a few from earlier in the task..

Instead, make some G420 bullshit up, slap on a smock, dust mask, and goggles to cut a pipe like you're handling hazardous materials.... pretend you know what you're doing and some kind of fabricator over night? You know damn well you got this idea from Oz, because he mentioned the same thing to me over a year back... Give credit where it's due, and stop fronting....

Read my post, he cut the end tanks off of an ebay core and had a garrett core welded to them. He stole this idea and is pawning it off as his own. It's fucked up shit, especially when the person he stole the idea from is a good dude, and originally offered to make it for Geno.

Guess what? I welded the endtanks from my shitty Revhard ic onto a very nice PTE core back in 02. I guess you could say SPTurks engineering stole that idea from me. Hell, people were doing this with GNX tanks on Garret big rig cores back in the late 80's. The point is, the guy youre talking about didnt come up with this on his own. He might have been the first to have the idea of doing it to an Audi, but that means basically nothing.
