BAT people... what DV are you using?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a Forge 007 and we think it is too small for the setup I am running now.

So any recommendations for a larger DV unit?

Why do you need a DV if you removed your TIP?

Re: BAT people... what DV are you using?

Well we just removed the TIP and totally forgot about the DV issue until yesterday when we were removing the tube that goes to the TIP.

So educate me on what I need so I don't have to beg the boys for knowledge

I understand the way it is configured now the DV vents to atmosphere so how is that different than a BOV... or is that exactly what a BOV does?

Re: BAT people... what DV are you using?

essentially you DV just became a BOV

Are you experiencing compressor surge? If not, What would make you want to change the forge 007?

Re: BAT people... what DV are you using?

Well I have an anti-surge housing so that isn't a problem.

When I had the TIP installed it was voiced that the 007 was too small for the setup and I should look into getting a larger DV.

So now that it isn't a DV and just a BOV do I need to change it? Lets say I'm confused about the need for it.

Re: BAT people... what DV are you using?

The need is to vent excess built up boost in the intake tract.

Whether it redirects (diverter) into the TIP or redirects to atmosphere.. It gets rid of excess built up boost in the intake tract when you close the throttle plate (ie: shift gears).

Re: BAT people... what DV are you using?

    That makes sense.

So is there a need to replace the 007 with a larger BOV or can I just leave it plumbed in as is?

I'm guessing a larger BOV would allow excess boost to vent faster.

Re: BAT people... what DV are you using?

The more air that leaves the intake tract, inbetween shifts, the more the turbo will have to work before it is fully spooled. (It has to 'refill' the intercooler and piping again)

What it comes down to primarily is, if you are not experiencing compressor surge, then I can see no need or want to put on a bigger DV/BOV....

synapse looks nice... but idk if it's worth all the hype. same with the HKS SSQV.

i run a turbosmart race port, absolutely love the thing. only thing you need to watch for is if you go with a tial 50mm or the turbosmart - you may have to put a hose clamp around it to keep it from venting too much (which is still better than not enough) because of that reason - i'd stray away from the new Tial BOV since it has slanted ports and you can't put a clamp around them.

If you do go with the Tial make sure you put a hose clamp over the oulet vents, other wise you will end up venting too much pressure.

You could always try the Forge 004 or even dual 004's.

I don't have any compressor surge

The only fluttering I get is when I lift off the pedal at partial boost as heard in the dyno video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS3l1Ff1R6s

Well I'm going to try the Forge 004 dual piston BOV as it is pretty much a drop in replacement for the 007 I have right now.

If it doesn't do the job I'll ante up and put in the Tial 50mm BOV or Synapse instead.

not to thread jack, but i have a quick question:

does a hybrid DV/BOV cause the car to lose power by partially venting to atmosphere? i'd really like to swap out my current DV for a hybrid product, but not if i lose power. i need all i can get at 1+!!!

no power loss from using a BOV, and no your car will not run bad either.

How loud is your blow off from the 004?

I don't mind the sound but I'd like to keep it quieter than louder. I am assuming every BOV sounds slightly different.

If too much is vented you end up with more lag since the turbo now has to replace all of that vented pressure/air. You want to let just enough out to not get compressor surge but not so much that you end up with lag. When I first put the tial 50mm on I had massive lag when going into the next gear, put a clamp on the valve to cut the pressure released by more then half and the lag went away.

I run a E-Bay OBX BOV (Tial knock off) and it's not real loud at all. If the windows are up and the radio on I can't hear it. I think the bigger the hole or holes are the quieter they are.

Well the Tial lets the pressure out in every direction and since it is not forcing all the pressure out in 1 direction you cant really hear it.

Yes because it is forcing air thru all those small holes and that is going to make it whistle.

    Big Diffence between this

    and this

Just look at how much bigger each vent is on the Tial vs the small ones on the Forge 004, so there is much more area for the air to get out on the tial.
