More rotating mass (and unsprung weight) has more of an effect than most people know.
I used to have a set of 17" Avus wheels with my RT615 Azenis mounted up. Besides the fact that those are conical tires and the wheels are 1" larger than stock. The car drove weird. Going from my all seasons to the Falken's made a world of a difference in the corners, but that added weight slowed the car down.
I was using those for AutoX, the car was stock other than the TT/A8 brakes. So basically I made the car slower than it was from the factory. I didn't realize that until later.
If you're going for looks, I still like the 17's. As far as weight goes though, I'd search non-OEM wheels.
