    B6 & B7 Nav Difference?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking at two similarly equipped cars ('05 & '06), with a price difference of $3,600. The '06 has 9k less miles.

I've noticed the Nav system is different than the newer one. Functionally, is the new one THAT much better? It has the large screen in the center console as well as the small speed next to the speedo.

BTW, what is the thought on the price difference for what you get?

Yeah, the B7 RNS-E (big screen) is better than the RNS-D that came in some of the B6s. Functionally, they both suck compared to something aftermarket, but a lot of people want the OEM look.

1 year newer, 9k less miles, better nav, newer body style... $3600 difference doesn't sound bad.

    I had a 2003 B6 S4 with the RNS-D and a 2005 B6 S4 with the RNS-E - the RNS-E is streets better than the RNS-D.

For example, in the US the RNS-E has one map DVD for the whole country, the RNS-D has 10/11 (can't remember exactly) CDs to cover the country and you have to swap them when you're on a road trip.

How does the RNS-E suck in terms of functionally?

Suck compared to what? An AVIC D3? Yeah okay maybe but it's not a whole lot worse. Touchscreen would have been nice but otherwise it's pretty damn good.

    Personally, I love the RNS-E.

I'm not crazy about it either. In my opinion, it's just kind of clumsy to use compared to other manufacturer's. Nissan's for instance is really fast and easy, with some nice features, compared to the Audi.

it sucks because there's no touchscreen, so if you want to spell a street name or city out, you have to turn the selection knob to the appropriate letters one at a time...can drive you nuts.

otherwise its amazing. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I agree i wish the RNS-E was a touch screen. There are some other little features that are nice with aftermarket units.

The stock feel and the overall capability of the RNS-E makes it a hand down choice for me though.
