its not the thermostat i dont think, it doesnt take long to heat up.

I'm having issues with my heater on my 2002 Audi A4 1.8T. The heater blows cold air most of the time, but sometimes hot air will blow out. However, the air is never really hot. The thermostat reaches the center of H and C in a few minutes. The Check Engine light was on before, but now it's off. I have to play with the temperature (usually put it all the way cold then bring the temp up slowly and hot air comes out). Sometimes there can be a burning smell coming from the heater too.

It's probably your heater core. I had the same symptoms and just had to get my heater core replaced just this week. Nice $450 .
