Hi everyone,

I have a 99 Audi A6 which is at 107k miles right now. I bought it at 105k miles and at that time, i was told that the serpentine belt has many little cracks and that i should have it replaced. Since the serpentine belt gets replaced when the timing belt gets replaced, I had assumed that the timing belt had never been replaced either and that I should replace it asap. I took the car to a mechanic who said that the timing belt should be replaced as well (obviously ). I was going to have it replaced today but then the previous owner tells me today that he had replaced it somewhere between 60 and 70k. It was great news for me but I really don't want to take any chances... who should i trust? The previous owner could not give me any exact details on where it was done.. so i have no way of verifying this.
Does the serpentine belt wear out faster than the timing belt? and should be replaced more frequently??
