In the pics of A5 S-Lines i have seen the ride height seems to high for me. What would you recommend. Cutting the springs to lower it or going for coil overs or a whole new suspension?

    Re: Lower

Stasis coilovers, cutting the springs would most likely destroy your ride haha and if you need a cheaper solution there are springs that will take it down about an inch for less than $500

he's saying to get stasis coilovers.

DO NOT cut your springs. please.

as mentioned above, if you are looking for a cheaper solution than coils buy new lowering springs, but can't go wrong with coils.

    Re: Lower

Yes the stock height is too tall for most of us who mod our cars. I would definately suggest a suspension upgrade to make these cars pop and do the body styling justice.

Moving on... you should never cut springs on any car, espicailly your Audi! Your best bet is a set of lowering springs w/shocks OR coilovers.
I personally run H&R sport springs and chose not to go with coilovers because I really never adjust the ride height. If you go with coilovers, the Stasis setup is a great option. How much do you want to spend?

yes he is, and it is working.

Cutting the springs on a A5 is a terrible idea. I am not trying to be rude, but if you can afford an A5 then you should be able to afford to lower it properly or don't do it...

Wow you stuck up annoying Audi drivers. When i leased my 08 A4 my dealer told me not to get a new suspension and to just cut the springs. I am just asking question and a normal answer would be nice instead of an annoying sarcastic remark.
(my remark only goes out to the "stuck up" people on this forum so please don't take offense if you are not one of them)

your dealer did not tell you to cut the springs on a leased vehicle.

i don't think people are being "stuck up", we are just trying to keep you from doing something that will damage your car. cutting springs is not going to be very precise, and risks causing structural damage to the springs themselves. this could cause an unstable suspension that is dangerous for you and your car. you spent a lot of money on buying a very nice car, why put it in jeopardy over a few hundred more dollars to lower it the right way?

that's why companies make products like coilovers and lowering springs so that you can improve your performance and/or lower the profile of your car safely... well and cause they want to make some money off us enthusiasts.

Please don't tell me what i was told, my salesman told me that since i got the S-Line suspension that there is no need for new springs, he was obviously wrong but that what i was told.

I would love to know what dealer told you to cut your springs. I know it wasnt Champion, that's for damn sure. You need to relax kid, you're making enemies on this forum real quick.

If you want a nice clean drop, go with H&R Sports like Tommy has on his S5. I have them on my car and they ride very similar to stock, just a tad stiffer.

why wouldn't you tell him? if i was a potential customer I wouldn't want to hear such a thing, that's stupidity. he just wants to speak to him so that it doesn't happen again especially for a dealership that has a racing history. It doesn't make any sense why you wouldn't tell him because I'd like to know. It's in the company's best interest. He'll never know who said it.

Mike, what are your offsets, do you have spacers, if so, how big are they?

And i'm sorry but a4-s-line17 is an idiot. Thinking that cutting the springs would work, then getting mad at someone who makes a joke about his stupid idea.

you can't believe it because it didn't happen. Trying to save himself extreme embarrassment the OP tried to pawn off the "cutting springs" option on the dealer. Funniest part is that the dealer found the thread

    Re: Lower

This thread is so LOL its ridiculous.
    Get coilovers or springs+shocks.

If you know any physics at all you know that cutting springs changes the spring constant entirely. And thats even just for a linear spring. For a progressive spring as are used on many cars not only would you be changing the spring constant but also it would depend on what part of the spring you used as the longer (installed) part for what the spring rates would be! That would totally fuck up your ride. The dealer / salesperson who said that is legitimately retarded. It is HILARIOUS that ChampionMotorsports found it.

OP, with all due respect, you are digging yourself into a deep hole. (1) Just tell Champion who the salesperson is. You are not helping anyone except that salesperson by not doing so, and you are endangering a lot of future drivers and people who are advised by him/her. (2) Do some research before you assert yourself. I know it is mistakable to mis-identify wheels, but don't act like you are 100% right when you don't really know your shit. (3) Learn to take a joke, it's the internet; and if you're getting frustrated, at least you weren't this guy: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3159/...cbed0126_o.jpg
