    Port and Polish the head...

So after I removed my ATP manifold to send off for warranty I noticed that the head could seriously use a gasket match on the exhaust side. I did it to the manifold when I put it on about a year or so ago.. but damn I knew I wasnt going to do the head then so I didnt really look at how much can be removed. After removing the manifold I could tell how much can be taken out.. holy smokes! Removing that much has to help out right!? So.. looks like the head is coming off. I wonder if there is a lot to remove from the intake side as well..

Should I just save myself the energy and put on an AEB head?

Put on an AEB head and replace the internals.

Match up with a large plenum intake manifold and s4 TB and you'll be set.

I'd leave it, just to keep velocity. I doubt you'll see/feel any gains.

If you want to polish the intake manifold, just get a bag of sand and suck it through the intake, it's way easier than doing all that work to remove it and stuff.

you would only see worthy gains if you get the car retuned. since airflow and velocity would be significantly different, i wouldn't be surprised if you threw a CEL because the a/f ratio would be different.

how big is the s4 TB? b6 or b5? (assuming you mean the b6/7 4.2L TB)

and unless you're to the point where the rest of your system is outflowing your head i'd just leave it to (like chris said) maintain velocity. it also depends on your overall goals - if you're going for huge power with something like a 35r then go for it... IMO though, if you still want a more even mid-range with decent top end a built/high revving small port with a 30 series and good intake/exhaust manifolds will do far better.

IIRC the B5S4 TB is 75mm.

I have a VDO 80mm unit sitting in a box beside me.

WRONG, we have widebands, the head will bring in more air, and wideband will see this and adjust by injecting more fuel

    = more power

Custom fabbed unit using some aluminum horns.

That is a Springtime project once we get the base file down for the wagon.

Re: Port and Polish the head...

id say gasket match because the gasket just hangin in there is blocking off flow for sure! but don't bother porting....you will loose velocity if you port and our cars don't flow enough CFM to make the difference i don't think.
